These gatherings are made up of men from every walk of life - with the focus of curating a foundation of strength. We gather to strengthen our faith, our community, and the vitality of our lives. We are a men's group that reads a passage of scripture before each meeting (usually 1 chapter or less) - then connects over ci**rs and discusses the reading while encouraging real conversations regarding
life, God and the Bible. SIMPLE IN STRUCTURE
We leverage four rhythms to make the most of our time together at Cigar Nights:
Scripture | Listening | Contribution | Prayer
SCRIPTURE: We begin in the Bible. We ask everyone who attends to read a short section of Scripture (a chapter or less - somewhere in the ballpark of 750-1,000 words). We believe there is a God and that His wisdom and truth can be found in the Bible.
2. The Bible is free, always accessible, and a great foundation for honest conversation. LISTENING: Any man can learn something from any man. During Cigar Nights we foster a posture of listening to one another. Our undivided attention is arguably one of the greatest commodities of our age. To give our attention to another is a gift. It’s kind. We learn when we listen. We want to hear from God and each other - therefore listening is key. CONTRIBUTION: If you got something to say, say it. Because we believe any man can learn from any man - we encourage everyone to speak up when they have something to say. Whether it’s a question, observation, insight, or encouragement - what you have cookin’ in your head might be just the thing someone else needs to hear. We all share a responsibility in stewarding the conversation space. If someone talks too much… they run the risk of commandeering the time and don’t leave room for others. If a person keeps an insight to himself - he may have just robbed another of the very thing they needed to hear that night. Our facilitators work diligently to keep the conversation honest, engaging, on-target, and compelling. But everyone who attends plays a part in making sure what needs to be said - gets said. PRAYER: Where two or more are gathered in My name...
We believe in the power of prayer. Prayer strengthens the community. It invites God into our circumstances. It’s where we can be honest about our concerns and our joys and invite others to join with us in them. Prayer is a place of strength. If there’s something specific we can pray about before we leave for the night - we close our time together by lifting it up in prayer. AUTHENTIC IN NATURE: It is our preference that you simply come as you are. Help us keep B.S. to a minimum. Help us cultivate an atmosphere of honesty and reverence. Feel free to be your real self. Showing up in this manner is the journey of integrity. As Jesus put it, “Let your yes be yes, and your no, no.”
CONSISTENT ON THE CALENDAR: We meet every other Sunday. We start at 7:00pm and go til 9:00pm. As a show of respect to your schedules, your time, and your families - we will always start on time and end on time. There’s always the option to show up a little early or stay a little late. Where we meet might shift occasionally - but will always be communicated before Sunday rolls around.
