VICTORY: A Kentucky Circuit Court has blocked the state's total abortion ban and six-week ban, granting our request for a temporary restraining order. Abortion is once again legal in the commonwealth. Our legal team is reviewing the order to determine when our client may resume care.

Since Roe was overturned last week, AG Cameron began enforcing a total ban on abortion at all stages of pregnancy. Nearly 200 patients with previously scheduled appointments have been denied care from our client alone.

Without the federal protections of Roe, we are now suing in state court, arguing Sections 1 and 2 of the Kentucky Constitution guarantee the rights to bodily autonomy, privacy, and self-determination.

We will see the AG in court next week, when we will argue the court should block enforcement of these laws for the duration of litigation.

Whatever shifting laws extremist politicians and judges throw at us, we will never stop fighting for your right to access abortion care. The government should never have the authority to force a person to remain pregnant against their will.

"Carol Savkovich with the Kentucky Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice said the decision is devastating.
Not only does it take rights way from women, but it puts them in deadly situations, carrying to term potentially life-threatening pregnancies at times. She also said women are now put into extreme financial hardships to travel out of state to get an abortion."

A scheduled protest is taking place in Lexington Friday night following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Kentuckians can breathe a sigh of relief that these extreme restrictions will remain blocked and abortion will remain accessible for now,” said Rebecca Gibron, CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, and KY. “For nearly a week, we were blocked from providing this critical and time-sensitive health care. We can’t go back. PP will work day by day to safeguard the ability of our patients to access essential health care, no matter what.”
“Abortion remains legal and available in KY and we will always fight to keep it that way,” said Heather Gatnarek, a staff attorney at ACLU Kentucky.

A United States District Court judge for the Western District of Kentucky has granted a preliminary injunction extending a block already put in place for some parts of House Bill 3, the omnibus abortion bill.

It is imperative that we stand up for our reproductive rights.
Show up and raise your voice if you're able. You can also write letters, send e-mails, and call your elected representatives.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, VOTE, VOTE VOTE!
NOTHING will change if we don't gain more control in the legislature and get Roe codified.

"In Kentucky, where nearly 80% of the population are Christians, some in the religious left who support access to abortion services are speaking up. The Kentucky Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice — an interfaith group that advocates for reproductive rights and provides education — plans to distribute stickers to inform people about the availability of medical abortions and to spread the word that abortions are still legal..."You can be a person of faith and choose to have an abortion, and this is a decision that is not against God,” said Carol Savkovich, vice chair of Kentucky Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned, Kentucky is one of 26 states expected to ban abortion. The state is bordered by others likely to ban it, too.

Biden has said if the high court overturns Roe, it's up to the voters to choose pro-choice lawmakers in November.
Senators will vote tomorrow on the Women's Health Protection Act, which is expected to fail.
Sen. Susan Collins, a key swing vote, said she will not support it.
"Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing justices. Choice should not be up to a handful of right-wing politicians. It's a woman's right. Plain and simple," he said.

The vote is a reaction to the leaked draft decision indicating the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The leaked preliminary opinion would overturn Roe v. Wade if a majority of justices decided to join, leaving state legislators to implement their own abortion policies.
KY's GOP supermajority is poised to ban abortions and make performing them a felony offense if the SCOTUS overturns Roe.
Leading Democratic politicians Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer said jointly that if the report was accurate, the Supreme Court was "poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past 50 years".

Millions could lose the legal right to abortion this summer, a leaked Supreme Court document shows.
