Welcome to Friday in the Word. Today we'll look at two passages -- Galatians 6:7-10 and Matthew 7:21-23 -- and talk about what motivates us to act. Paul leads off in the Galatians passage by essentially saying don't fool yourself, God will not be mocked. You can't trick or deceive Him because He is the creator of everything. He knows all. In Matthew, Jesus says that you can invoke His name as much as you want, but if your actions are geared to your own gain, saying the words are meaningless. When we allow Christ to work through us with no expectation of personal gain, that's when Jesus knows us -- we have given ourselves to Him. Please consider following Christ with me at Plain Truth Ministry. God bless.

In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth -- in Him. Ephesians 1:7-10

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:7-9

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another! Galatians 4:13-15

Welcome to Friday in the Word. Today I want to talk about "Getting out of the Boat". I was thinking about my dear friend and first pastor, Wayne Young, this week and was reminded of the story he told me about when he knew it was time to get out of the boat. The familiar passage comes from Matthew 14:25-32 and tells the story of Jesus telling Peter to get out of the boat. The boat represents the worldly things that provide us with what we perceive as safety, strength, and comfort. But the reality is that only Jesus can provide those things through faith in Him. If you haven't gotten out of the boat, it's time. Please consider following Christ with me Plain Truth Ministry.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. Galatians 2:20-21

But he who glories, let him glory in the Lord. For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends. 2 Corinthians 10:17-18

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for putting down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
