This Shabbos is the last Shabbos of the Jewish Year 5784. I think we'd all agree 5784 has been an incredibly difficult year. But now is our chance to get a head start on creating a very different year in 5785. A New Year filled with unity, friendship, and love. A New Year filled with mitzvos, chesed, and Torah learning. A New Year filled with laughter and light.

Fifty years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe initiated a campaign that has since illuminated homes and hearts around the world: the Shabbos Candle Lighting Campaign. Every Friday evening, countless women and girls have ushered in the peace and holiness of Shabbos by lighting candles, a practice that not only brightens the physical space but also brings spiritual light and warmth to families and communities.

Today, we celebrate the golden anniversary of this timeless mitzvah. As we light our Shabbos candles this week, we continue to fulfill the Rebbe’s vision—to spread light and hasten the coming of Moshiach.

*The Power of One Small Flame*
Each flame represents a spark of holiness and a beacon of hope, spreading light even in the darkest corners. By participating in the Rebbe’s campaign, you are taking part in a global movement of light and unity, connecting to thousands of others who are preparing the world to greet Moshiach.

*How You Can Join This Celebration*
1. *Light Shabbos Candles:* Whether you are renewing this practice or starting for the first time, the Rebbe’s message is clear—every candle matters, every light counts.
2. *Encourage Others:* Share this beautiful tradition with friends and family. Each new candle lit is another step toward illuminating the world.
3. *Reflect on the Rebbe’s Teachings:* Take a moment to read the Rebbe’s inspiring words on the transformative power of Shabbos candles and how each mitzvah brings us closer to the ultimate redemption.

As we light our Shabbos candles this Friday evening, let’s reflect on this milestone and strengthen our commitment to welcoming Moshiach with acts of goodness and kindness.

Wishing you and your family a Shabbat Shalom filled with light and peace.

Tisha B'Av: Monday evening, August 12 - 13, 2024

What is Tisha B'av

The saddest day on the Jewish calendar is the Ninth of Av, "Tisha b'Av," the date on which both our Holy Temples were destroyed, and exile, persecution and spiritual darkness began.

Tisha b'Av starts at sundown of the eighth of Av and lasts till the following nightfall. During this time-period we fast, eschew pleasurable activities and amenities, and lament the destruction of the Holy Temple and our nation’s exile.

It is a tradition, however, that Tisha b'Av is also the birthday of our Redeemer. This symbolizes the idea that from the ashes of the destroyed temple will rise an incomparably magnificent edifice; exile will give birth to redemption. Thus Tisha b’Av is also a day of anticipation and hope, for "One who mourns Jerusalem will merit seeing her happiness."

Tisha B'Av Schedule at Chabad of Mt. Olympus:

Sheviyi Shel Pesach the seventh of Pesach is commemorating the miraculous salvation and miracle of the splitting of the Reed Sea seven days after the Jewish people left Egypt, when they were besieged by Pharoh and his army who pinned them them at the sea. Hashem performed the iconic transcendant wonder of splitting the sea for them, as they walked on dry land, while the Egyptians chasing after them drowned.

Acharon Shel Pesach the eighth and last day of the Holiday is the day of Moshiach the future redemption and there is a stirring and wondrous Haftorah from Isaiah chanted during the morning Services which such famous phrases as "the wolf will lie with the lamb" which refers the the overturning of the natural predatory nature of the world , into the peaceful era of Moshiach!

It also has the Yizkor Memorial Services.

As it is the first Yizkor since the October 7th Massacre, we will be having a special Memorial service for all those who were murdered and those who fell during the Assault and afterwards defending the Jewish people and Israel

Do you ever feel just a wee bit anxious these days? Do events around the world, in our country, or your personal life make you a bit uncomfortable? Does it feel like things are just so unstable and the very ground you stand on isn’t as firm as you’d always hoped it would be?

Well, I certainly feel that way sometimes. It’s only natural with everything going on, after all.

The last day of [Passover/Pesach] is a day to reflect on our future. Specifically, it’s a time to explore the core Jewish belief in the coming of a Messianic age. Our nation has experienced redemptions before, and history has shown that they could literally come in the blink of an eye.

If it happened before, it could happen again.

Join me and others in our community on this final day of Passover, April 30 at 6:00pm for a full-on “Feast of Moshiach, at Chabad of Mt. Olympus, 8124 Laurelmont Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90046 USA. Together, we’ll unpack what it means to do our part in cultivating a harmonious world. We’ll share a final taste of Matzah and wine and join together in discussion and song, and if only for a moment, elevate ourselves to the peaceful world we so desperately need to power us through the rest of the year.

Chag Sameach, Gut Yom Tov, and Happy Pesach!!
