Hello to all,

As you know, October is Domestic Abuse Awareness month. Domestic Abuse/Intimate Partner violence is more prevalent for women in the United States than breast cancer and diabetes combined.

In the United States, an estimated 10 million people experience DV every year, and according to the National coalition against Domestic Violence, about 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner. About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience “severe” intimate partner physical violence, sexual violence, and/ or partner stalking with injury.

A person may not be a perpetrator, however, if we know abused is taking place, and keep silent, we are guilty of perpetuating the cycle of abuse.

God weeps at Domestic Violence and any violence.
We must speak up! If you see something, take action the safest way possible!

Greetings My Friends,
I worked for a Domestic Violence Crisis Shelter for over 20 years. I received my Doctor of Ministry degree 2011, from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA. My dissertation focus was Domestic Abuse, and my topic was, “Domestic Abuse: Moral and Prophetic Challenge for the African Methodist Episcopal Church.”

My goal is to publish my dissertation, however, I will revisit the topic to be more inclusive of the faith community. I will post excerpts from my book and ask that those who believe that this work is important, please share your thoughts.

Since retirement, I have been thinking of ways to continue this work through social media.

Thank you,

Arnetha E. Bell-Inge, MDiv, DMin

Greetings,

February is “Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month”

Nearly 1 in 11 female and approximately 1 in 14 male high school students report having experienced physical dating violence in the last year.

This year’s theme is, “Talk About It.”

Teen dating violence—also known as intimate partner violence (IPV), among adolescents, intimate relationship violence among adolescents, or adolescents relationship violence—can include physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, harassment, or stalking between individuals aged 12 to 18 who are or have been in a consensual, romantic relationship.

Teen dating violence is not limited to physical abuse. While it can include actions such as hitting, shoving, or pushing, biting, and hair-pulling, physical actions do not have to be present to constitute teen dating violence. They may also include:

*Bullying
*Shaming
*Intentionally embarrassing
*Forcing into non-consensual sexual acts
*Stalking (in person or electronically)
*Monitoring (in person or electronically),
*And more

We are living in perilous times, but we are not alone.

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd. (Hebrews 11:1-2 the msg).

“Got Faith, Act On It”

The songwriter reminds us that, “Time is filled with swift transition, Naught on earth unmoved can stand. Build your hopes on things eternal. Hold to God’s unchanging hand. In this season of presidential debates, mud slinging campaigning, and political upheaval, we have got to hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Oh how we thank God for the writer of Psalm 146, who tells us to Praise God with our whole being as long as we live, because God does what is fair. We can put our trust in God. The writer admonishes, The Lord will be king forever, so praise the Lord!

Even in a time of political upheavel, there is hope, because the psalmist sees a Lord above our earthly lords, rulers, and government officials who really does fulfill the commission, who really does keep His promises. This God promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

This does not mean that as Christians, we should roll over and play dead, or succumb to these Racists practices and laws in the land. No, God has given His children power to tread on these evils and walk on the devil’s head. Christians, Christ lovers, let’s band together and put these devils to a flight, and hold to God’s unchanging hand. There is power in the name of Jesus, not defeat.

In times like these we need a savior, and it is not #45, it is Jesus. Do you know Jesus? Accept Him while there is still time. This is the day of salvation.
