Ecclesiastes 7:14 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.
We all the sudden are introduced to creator Yahweh In Genesis chapter 1. He creates the earth, animals, garden, humankind and everything else. We hear a story about how Yahweh tells humankind not to eat a particular fruit and how humankind sinned by eating it and now we are living in a sinful and broken world. We are quick to state that, when things are uncomfortable or painful that something is not right.
It is a true fact that something is not right. In our hearts we have come to believe that if what is happening around us is causing pain or discomfort that it is bad. Furthermore we need to either fix the problem, run from the problem or do something of that nature to ease the symptoms of said problem or situation.
But what is the problem? The problem is the heart's condition. In Genesis we see mankind's sin was not merely just the sin of disobeying God in eating the fruit but the first sin started even before that. The first sin was when the serpent told eve you shall not surely die! and eve then considered how that she could improve her OWN knowledge. You see, eve was at that instant using her will, to disconnect herself from Yahweh, the source of her life, and put herself in control of her own understanding.
So, you see the problem is not the serpents of this life, which are a problem in and of themselves, presented as uncomfortable or painful situations. The problem is in that we choose to focus on the distractions because they were not what we had expected. We are trying to control EVERY aspect of our Christian lives, and while yes we have free will to do as we please, what is it that we are pleased to do? Each of you think of something uncomfortable in your own life that is out of or control or capable of being within your ability to act on and hold on to that thought.
Ok, now put that into perspective of timeless Yahweh who infinitely existed before He created space, time, humankind and everything in it. All the while existing without constraint of time, knowing as he created the world that we would sin and seeing our sin, as if it was now, to Him, He still created us. He CARED enough in His triunity relationship within Himself to make us in His image so that we could be a part of that unexplainable love relationship with Him. Not only did He create us anyway, He made a way for us to maintain a relationship with Him in our temporal broken and malconditioned heart state through Jesus’s death and resurrection.
Now, if we see a circumstance in our life that we consider uncomfortable, painful or bad how is it that we are measuring what is good and bad? Is it by what we can see in this comprehended segment of time, within this physical temporal world that we merely are passing through? Or are we measuring it by trusting in our timelessly infinite Yahweh creator of everything we know from the greatest non planet colliding galaxy to the smallest living microbial?
So you see the reconciled condition of the heart is to get the focus off of self and what self thinks is good or bad, be transparent with Yahweh when self is upset, angry or discomforted and find contentment in the response of correction, consolation or quietness. It is then that we can look forward to the next unknown challenges in life rather than be afraid of them. Because in our challenges, heartache and pain we can find beauty and spiritual strength through the intimately connected love relationship with our timeless infinite creator Yahweh
