Statement of Faith

We Believe:
In the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Jesus became a human being, died for our sins, was raised the third day, ascended to the heavens, there to make intercession for us always
The gospel—the good news that through Jesus, God’s kingdom is now—and that all who believe may enter and find life. That Christianity is a life of learning from Jesus how to live in His kingdom and that He lays claim to 100% of all we are and possess. That the church is the community of God’s people called to bear witness to the gospel. Spiritual gifts equip the people of God and edify the Body of Christ
That the Holy Scriptures are the inspired word of God and guide the church in its witness. That the seventh-day Sabbath is holy time and God’s signature upon creation and redemption. In the literal, personal and soon coming of Christ
That humanity by nature is mortal and eternal life is a gift of God through Christ. In the glorious resurrection of the righteous dead at the second coming of Christ where everything will be made new and sin will be no more
Our bodies are the temple of God’s Spirit and should be treated as such. That the Christian life should be characterized by simplicity and modesty and that our wealth spent to alleviate the suffering of the poor and needy. You can create Peace + Justice Everyday:

Meet your neighbors. Attend a neighborhood council meeting. Take public transportation. Bake cookies for your neighbors. Learn the history of your neighborhood. Visit a retirement home in your neighborhood. Shop local
Have a different conversation. Pick up the trash in your neighborhood. Think of an issue you care about and learn more. Walk in your community.

This Sabbath brings a baptism and a teaching on God's primordial waters. It's a message that grounds us in the materiality of our embodied selves, while poetically, metaphorically, and experientially teaching us lessons that fill and feed the spirit. Water is life, and Jesus is the Living Water from which we drink our lives of faith and hope, love and joy.

We welcome Jonny Moor as our guest speaker this week. His sermon is titled, "If Jesus Read My Soul, He'd Find a Nicodemus," from John 2:23-3:2.

Jonny Moor is a chaplain and religion teacher at Glendale Adventist Academy. He lives with his artisan-souled, podcast producing, song and script writing wife, Heather, and an old black labrador retriever, Leo. His other hobbies include boba, longboarding, playing basketball, reading, and playing games. Jonny has a doctorate in discipleship and biblical spirituality (Andrews University), a Masters of Divinity (Andrews University), and Bachelors in Theology and Biblical Languages (Walla Walla University).

It's a special time at Hollywood Adventist. While we're not a liturgical church, we recognize that there's value to tracking time in the Christian calendar. This is the season of "Lent." The underlying ethical themes have to do with a commitment to personal change and conversion. This traditionally happens through acts of self-denial (such as fasting), solidarity with all of humanity through acts of charity/giving, forgiving and accepting the forgiveness of others, and recognizing the real need for social justice in our world. In short, the season holds many possibilities for personal growth and the enactment of justice.

THE HERITAGE TREE EXHIBIT | MARCH 10 - MAY 11

The Heritage Tree exhibit is a special collection of memories, poems, and artwork. In collaboration with our partners at The People Concern’s Studio 526 in Skid Row, this exhibit is a dedication to members and artists from our shared communities of Hollywood and Burbank churches.

We invite you to take part in this interactive exhibit by sharing photos, poetry and memories. Talk with either Mae, Michael or Bill if you’re interested in participating. The art will be on view March 10 through May 11. More details and a formal reception date to follow.

Artwork is dedicated to our loved ones who we have recently lost. In Memory of Mark Harman, Rico, and others.
