Liberty Ladies 🌿

Earlier this week we talked about Pilate’s wife.

A woman who appears for only a moment in the Easter story, yet her words carry incredible weight.

In the middle of the chaos surrounding Jesus’ trial, she sent a message to her husband:

"Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered greatly in a dream because of him."
(Matthew 27:19)

She sensed something others refused to see.

She recognized the innocence of Jesus even when the crowd was shouting for something else.

Sometimes God speaks that way to us too.

Not through thunder or lightning, but through a quiet nudge in our spirit.

A moment where something feels unsettled.
A thought we cannot shake.
A sense that God is trying to get our attention.

So today we pause and reflect.

Take a few quiet minutes today and simply ask God:

Lord, help me recognize Your voice when You speak.

Ask Him to give you a heart that listens and the courage to respond when He nudges you.

And if you feel comfortable sharing, I would love to hear from you.

💬 Have you ever experienced a moment where you felt God guiding or warning you in your spirit?

Your story might be exactly what another woman here needs to hear today.

Liberty Ladies 💜

As we continue our Lent journey looking at the women of the Easter story, today we meet a woman who appears for only a single moment in Scripture.

Yet her words are powerful.

Pilate’s wife.

In Matthew 27:19, while Pilate is sitting on the judgment seat deciding what to do with Jesus, she sends him this message:

"Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him."

We are not told her name.
We are not told what the dream looked like.
We are not told how she knew.

But somehow, she understood something important.

Jesus was innocent.

In the middle of a political moment, a mob shouting, and a trial that had already started going wrong, she sensed the truth.

Sometimes God speaks quietly.

Through a nudge in our spirit.
Through a sense that something is not right.
Through a moment where truth becomes clear even when others ignore it.

Pilate’s wife listened.

But the world around her chose a different path.

This week we pause and consider her story.

Not because she had power over the situation, but because she recognized who Jesus was when others were willing to overlook it.

Liberty Ladies 🌿

On Tuesday we talked about Mary of Bethany. The woman who chose to sit at the feet of Jesus when others were busy and distracted. The woman who later poured out expensive perfume on Him, something so valuable that others around her questioned it.

But Mary understood something they didn’t.

She knew that Jesus was worthy of everything.

She didn’t hold back. She didn’t calculate the cost. She simply poured it out.

And that leads us to today’s reflection.

THURSDAY – LIVE IT
Your Alabaster Jar

In Scripture, the alabaster jar represented something precious. Something costly. Something that wasn’t easily replaced.

For Mary, it was perfume.

For us, it might look different.

Sometimes our alabaster jar is control.
Sometimes it’s fear.
Sometimes it’s pride, hurt, expectations, or something we’ve been holding onto tightly for a long time.

So here’s the invitation for today.

Before the busyness of the day takes over, take five quiet minutes. Sit with Jesus the way Mary did.

Ask yourself:

What is my alabaster jar right now?
What feels too costly to pour out?

Then in your own way, offer it to Him.

If you feel comfortable, share in the comments one thing you are laying down this week so we can pray for each other.

Jesus, make us women who recognize Your worth and are willing to pour out whatever we’re holding.

Liberty Ladies💜

What if we’ve rushed past the women of Easter too quickly?

We know the cross.
We know the empty tomb.
But do we really know the women who were there?

This Lent, we are slowing down and paying attention.

From now until Easter, every Tuesday and Thursday, we’ll focus on a different woman in the Easter story. Women who showed up when others ran. Women who poured out what was costly. Women who stayed in the sorrow. Women who walked toward the tomb while it was still dark.

Their stories are not side notes. They are sacred.

And through them, we are going to see more clearly the heart of Jesus.

Not to become more like them.
But to draw closer to Him.

Today, we begin with a woman who chose what was better.

Mary of Bethany.

Let’s look closer. 🌿

While others were busy preparing and serving, Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus.

Later, she would pour out expensive perfume on Him. While others calculated cost, she recognized worth. She sensed something holy unfolding.

Reflection Questions:
• Where am I distracted when Jesus is near?
• What does choosing presence over performance look like in my life?

Prayer for today:
Jesus, make us women who choose what is better.

Feel free to share your thoughts, questions, prayers, and encouragement in the comments. You are welcome here! 💜
