The Oasis- An Early to Mid Stage Alzheimer's/Dementia Group The Oasis, an Early Stage Alzheimer's/ Dementia Program is an outreach ministry of First Baptist Church of Lewisville. We meet every Thursday from 10am-2pm.

The Oasis is an Early to Mid Stage Alzheimer's/ Dementia group that provides provides activities and fellowship for those with dementia and a free 4 hour respite for their caregivers. This program provides meaningful activities for adults with early to mid stage Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. Meetings combine socialization, physical movement, music and other memory stimulating activitie

s in a safe and comfortable environment. This program also provides free short term relief for caregivers allowing them 4 hours to themselves. Today at Oasis we talked about who grew up in the City or a Farm. During our discussion circle we found out some of our friends grew up with cows, chickens and horses. Some even had outdoor potties and took baths with well water outside in a wash tub. Next we got to enjoy listening to Phil Rogers who came to sing for us. We even got to sing Happy Birthday to Bronwen. After singing we enjoyed our chick fil a sandwich, chips, fruit and Bronwen’s birthday cake. Now it was time for chair aerobics with Bronwen. Now it was craft time where we made a cow and dog out of paper. We ended the day coloring and playing Farm bingo. It was another great day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week. Happy Birthday to our wonderful friend and leader, Bronwen!!

Oasis is back and this week was all about Transportation. During our discussion circle we heard about everyone’s road trips and who has traveled by boat, trains and airplanes. We had a new entertainer, Sam Baker. We really enjoyed him. He got us up and dancing. Now it was time for lunch prepared by the VRC kitchen. We had pulled pork, potato salad, fruit and snickerdoodle cookies. After lunch, we all participated in our chair aerobics with Dory. Next we all made our transportation craft and then we ended the day with transportation Bingo. Thank you to our summer volunteers from NCL, Highland Village chapter. Also, Freda, our sweet support dog came to visit. It was great to be back yesterday and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week.

Oasis had fun at our Summer Beach Party this week. Our day started with our discussion circle. We talked about our favorite summer activities and our favorite Vacations. Next we were entertained by the best Hula dancer, Courtney. She had us all hula dancing to the song Tiny Bubbles. Buddy got to go on stage and he had a great time hula dancing with Courtney. We love it when she comes. Now it was time for our lunch that was prepared by the VRC kitchen. Everyone enjoyed the grilled burgers, coleslaw, chips and chocolate chip cookies. Thank you 😊 After lunch we all participated in our chair aerobics with Bronwen. Next we made our Sand Beach craft that we got to take home then we played summertime bingo. We ended the day playing Balloon Volleyball and did the Limbo back to our rooms. Please enjoy all of our pictures. Oasis will be back on June 4th and we can’t wait to see everyone.

You have a Friend in me at Oasis 🥰 This week we celebrated all of our friends. We started our day with our discussion circle where we talked about our school friends and lifelong friendships. After our discussion group we were entertained by Jill Beam. She is so talented in playing the flute and singing and making us smile. We also had a special guest, Woody (Tim) from Toy Story came and sang you’ve got a friend in me. It was great 😊 Now it was lunchtime where we all enjoyed pizza, salad and chocolate and pecan bars. Thank you Senior Living Specialist. After lunch, we all participated in our chair aerobics led by Dory. Next we made our crafts. We made a friendship cross out of seashells. We ended the day playing roll and cover. It was another great day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week. Thank you for being our Friend ❤️

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Oasis. We had a wonderful day this week sharing memories and talking about our Mom’s. Tim read his Mother’s Day poem that was so sweet and touching. We got to read some of Gary’s Mom diary that she wrote in the 70’s.❤️ We all loved Eric Kolb with Songs and Smiles that entertained us. We got to sing along to some Mom songs. Next it was lunchtime that the VRC kitchen prepared. We enjoyed Salisbury Steak with gravy, Mac and cheese, salad, rolls and yummy sugar cookies. Thank you. After lunch we all participated in our chair aerobics with Bronwen. Now it was craft time where we made a special Mother’s Day mirror compact with special gifts just for our special wife or mother. We ended the day playing bingo and finishing Mother’s Day quote’s. It was another great day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week.

This week at Oasis we celebrated Baseball Day!! Our day started with our discussion circle where we talked about our favorite baseball team and players. We also shared our favorite baseball memories. Of course our favorite team is the Texas Rangers ❤️ Next we were entertained by Stephen and Marcie Hatfield. Marcie is the Texas Rangers #1 fan and she shared with us a lot of trivia. They also sang our favorite baseball songs. Now it was time for lunch where we enjoyed our all beef big hotdog, chips, fruit and yummy chocolate chip cookies. After lunch we did our Chair aerobics with Bronwen. Next up was craft time where we made our baseball craft. We ended the day with our annual Oasis Baseball game. All of our participants got to hit the ball and run the bases while we all cheered them on. We had another great day and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week. We had a special visitor. Kathy’s daughter came to visit with Kathy’s 6 month old granddaughter that we got to love on 💓

Post 1 - We all had a great day yesterday at Oasis where during our discussion circle we talked about and remembered all of our sweet pets. We found out some of our participants used to have raccoons, snakes, turtles… !! Now it was time for the church First Step Kids and the preschoolers to sing for us and we had a sing along. They were adorable. After our entertainment we enjoyed our lunch that was prepared by the VRC kitchen. We had chicken tetrazzini, salad, and garlic bread. We had a very special dessert, Pet donuts. They were so good and adorable. Thank you Roanne. Next we went outside and got to pet a mini horse and Pony. They were so sweet. Thank you Gigi, Lauren, Stella and Luke for sharing your sweet pets. We came back in and did our chair aerobics with Bronwen. After aerobics we did our cute horse craft and played find the pet name. We ended the day with Pet Bingo and name the famous pet. It was another amazing day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week. Be sure and look at my 2nd post with all of us with the pony. ❤️😸🐶🐷🐴

Oasis celebrated Springtime yesterday. During our discussion circle we talked about our favorite flowers and what we all loved about springtime. Our entertainment was wonderful with Eric Kolb with Songs and Smiles. He even brought his Dad, Barry with him. We love to sing along to all of the springtime songs. Next it was lunchtime where we enjoyed Chick fil A sandwiches, fruit, chips and yummy cookies. After lunch, Bronwen led us in our chair aerobics. Now it was craft time where we made our own hanging flower basket. We ended the day getting to go outside and fly some kites and then playing bingo. It was another great day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week. We want to give a special thank you to the extra volunteers that helped us out yesterday. We all had a great day at Oasis yesterday. Our day started with our discussion circle where we all talked about our favorite hobbies. We love to “eat”, play games, garden and sew. Next we were entertained by Mike Fry. We sang along to all of our favorite hymns. After listening to Mike we had our great lunch that was prepared by the VRC kitchen. We had pulled chicken, baked potatoes, salad and yummy cookies that Cynthia made for us. Thank you 😊 Next we all participated in our chair aerobics with Bronwen. Now it was craft time. We made a cross necklace and a glitter seashell craft. We ended the day with Bingo and finish the line. It was another blessed day at Oasis and we can’t wait to see everyone again next week.
