I know we have all been hit hard due to the economy, and I, personally, don't know anyone that is "rolling in the dough!" However, something in Loudon County has been brought to my attention that truly breaks my heart. As we all know, our small town doesn't offer a whole lot of services to help the ones in need, and due to the lack of jobs in our area, the charity organizations that were helping
are no longer able to help ANYONE that has any sort of income AT ALL. Which includes our elderly, sick, disabled, etc.... So, most people in our town that are on a fixed income are going hungry and doing without at the end of each month until their checks come in at the beginning of the next month. Here it is:
Find someone in our town that is struggling on a fixed income that you would like to help get through that last week of each month. Then, we can all buy just 2 extra cans (or other items of food) each time we visit the grocery store. Then, on the 3rd weekend of each month, get together and combine our food. You will be able to pack your own box for your family or person that you have "adopted" to help each month. Now, the only thing left to do is deliver your box! =) I know that $5- $9 a month isn't a lot, but if we all spent that we could have a lot of food to help with! I know that if we could all do just a little, it could help a lot! It won't take a lot of time or money, and I will be happy to pick up the food if you are not able to come. Also, in doing this, you would know where your contribution is going and that your chosen person or family is receiving their food. If you could talk to your churches to see if we could leave a box there for donations as well that would be wonderful! I would be happy to pick up the box when it is full.
