The All-District Band concert last week was “next level” as our kids would say. The whole experience brought us back to a homily we heard in the past week on avoiding the “Februarization of the Mind” - January and February often give us long, dark, cold, and tiring days…

Draw near to God in this. Give your heart to Him even more. Don’t surrender the hope you have in Him. Don’t make any drastic decisions based on the troubling emotions you’re feeling. Hold on.

Just when a kind of “Februarization” of our minds was setting in, a piece by Bach and the conductor’s reflection drew us back from the heaviness we were starting to feel . Tears and gratitude—a much bigger perspective—penetrated the “grind” and fatigue. “Solo Deo Gloria” and “Draw near to God” reminded us of our heavenwards pilgrimage.

As you take stock of where your heart is— in this time between New Year’s and Lent —consider one of the following ideas:
* Pause and reflect on the past month. Thank God for the blessings He has shown you.Try to envision your burdens as opportunities for a closer union with Jesus on the cross.
* If you’re married, take turns “sponsoring” a 2-3-hr. “mini-retreat” for your spouse in order to have this time to check in with your heart and ask God for His guidance and inspiration. This can be a few hours for Eucharistic Adoration, or a hike, or other way for you to find the solitude and quiet you need.
* If things have slipped, get back to more regular family prayer and family dinners. Many slips into “Februarization” can be averted by simply showing up for family dinner and prayer, day after day. This gives God more room to work in your family’s daily life.

God once again used his vessels—a composer, a conductor, a priest—to lift our minds from “Februarization” and back to giving him glory in all things. Solo Deo Gloria.

Join us in praying for the many families attending Heaven in Your Home Gatherings at their parishes this weekend!

Most Holy Trinity,
Thank you for these families, each one a communion of persons made in your image, and for making your home within each one. Give families the courage and ability to come together in community, and to build strong and holy relationships. May they welcome, listen to, and serve one another as you do for us. We pray that you will make each family into an ever more radiant image of you and their homes into a taste of heaven that overflows to their neighbors.
Amen

The other day when one of our kids nonchalantly mentioned going online two or three times a day to check grades, we turned to each other in disbelief.

“Back in our day,” grading was a process cloaked in mystery. Also yes, we confess to checking our parent portal app and occasionally overreacting to what we see there.

Today’s immediate access to the results of a pop quiz offers a glimpse into the dangerous head-space that our families can slip into if we’re not careful. And that danger can negatively affect the development of healthy people and relationships within our family.

Failure can play an outsized role for our kids in today’s increasingly secular and achievement-at-all-costs culture. Inversely, it’s tempting to take any exposure to failure as an opportunity to cushion the sting.

Allow your child to sit with and metabolize their failures - acknowledge without swooping in or having a big reaction.

Share stories of your own failures, with a laugh. Life goes on.

Confidently, lovingly, and mercifully move forward. Renounce the temptation to revisit or replay.

Lord willing, in 20 or 30 years our kids will shrug and laugh about all those little dramas as their hearts and minds recall the love they knew and experienced within the bosom of their family- reflecting God’s overflowing communion within the Holy Trinity.

This Jubilee Year is a time of hope, of mercy, of forgiving debts and being set free, of setting things right between ourselves and God and our neighbor. It’s a year for joyfully reaffirming our faith or returning to the path that leads to heaven.

Here are some ways to celebrate and benefit from this special time in the life of the Church.

- use the Heaven in Your Home flowchart as a guide on your pilgrimage of hope

- pray the Jubilee Prayer, specifically for prisoners, the sick, the young, migrants, exiles, displaced persons and refugees, the elderly, grandparents, and the poor as Pope Francis has requested

- make a regular Confession schedule as an essential part of your continual journey of conversion

- practice daily “small gestures of friendship, a kind look, a ready ear, a good deed” (18)

- practice patience and forgiveness amidst the “frenetic pace of life”

- devotion to Mary through the daily rosary, a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine, or other Marian devotion

- make a pilgrimage, which on foot is “a great aid for rediscovering the values of silence, effort and simplicity of life” (5)

Join the Church this year in its pilgrimage and be filled with the power of hope

A few weeks ago, we heard great news from a young mom.

She shared, “I attended one of your workshops and I just want to report back. At the time, my husband and I were struggling. We had no vision or strategy for where we were taking our kids. Since then, our family has been intentionally trying to live out the Trinity House Way and our eyes are focused on heaven. Thank you!”

Stories of transformation like this have been made possible by God’s grace and our generous supporters.

And 2024 has brought many other blessings as well, from the expansion of Trinity House Community Groups—now at 30 parishes in 13 states—to launching our Spanish website and celebrating the 10th anniversary of Trinity House Café + Market.

Will you help us reach our year-end goal by making your gift here today? With your help, we can make this our most impactful year yet!

Heavenly Father, prepare my heart for the coming of your Son.
Give me the grace to repent, to prepare my heart in truth.
Grant me new courage, new zeal, to stay the course to David’s City.
Protect me from every distraction that seeks to waylay.
Cover me in your mercy, your tenderness, and your love.
Give me the grace to renounce the spirits of perfection, of despair, of grasping.
Renew my family in your loving kindness.
Heal us, have mercy on us, reveal our own hearts to us.
Take from me every misplaced longing, every idol.
Teach me how to wait, to anticipate.
Take from me my desire for haste, for comfort, for perfection.
In the arrival of my family to Bethlehem, grant us peace.
In the stable of my distraction, prepare a place for your newborn Son.
In the manger of my selfishness, prepare a place for my Savior.
In the Bethlehem of my heart, prepare a place for the Infant.
Come, Lord Jesus. I desire only you.

Making Home a Little Taste of Heaven

Hello Friend,

Welcome to the Trinity House Community! Our mission is to inspire families to live together with God, making their homes a little taste of heaven to share with others for the renewal of faith and culture. We are a Catholic non-profit ministry with many beloved Protestant and Eastern Orthodox family, friends, collaborators and supporters. We hope you’ll join us on this journey to share heaven with as many people as possible!

What led us to this mission? We noticed that everywhere you look, self-centered, impersonal lifestyles are on the rise, causing profound unhappiness, making the practice of the faith seem irrelevant, and creating a toxic culture. Meanwhile, our own experience is telling us that things don’t have to be this way. So, we want to share the good news with everyone we know!

We started the ministry in 2006, holding events in parishes and growing a community of Christians who want to help renew faith and culture. In 2014, we took our mission into the public square with Trinity House Cafe + Market, our public model of a Christian home, where we work day-by-day to inspire families with our vision. After five years of honing this platform, in 2019 we began making the Trinity House model more widely available through workshops and other tools.
