Today I was told the Leeds Food Pantry is critically low. During Rise Up this am, the kids completed packing back packs of school supplies for less fortunate around the world. I asked the kids what they thought of this opportunity to serve in our own community. The kids suggested donating panty items themselves. They also liked the idea of organizing a community food drive to replenish the community pantry.

Wednesday at 3:15 the Rise Up youth will be meeting at the Leeds Lutheran Church in the study. We will then go door to door in the community asking for donations to the food pantry. We will collect items from 3:30-5:30 and then meet back at the church for pizza. Kids will be ready for pick-up at 6pm.

If you would like to help you can
-Drop off pantry items at the Lutheran Church. A box will be placed inside the front door.
-Donate your time by joining us on Wednesday.
-Have pantry items ready when the youth knock on your door Wednesday from 3:30-5:30.
-Volunteer as an adult driver (to help shuttle the pantry items and kids from donation sites to the pantry).
-Pray for our kids as they participate in this service for our community.

Our lessons throughout the Fall come from Freedom Ride. We have been focusing on how to pray, why we pray, listening for the voice of God, and things that can get in the way of hearing God's voice. The lessons are scripture based. The youth practice looking up scripture during our lessons. We discuss the meaning of the scripture and how it can guide us day to day (making the Bible applicable to their lives and problems).

Rise Up (Leeds Lutheran Church Youth Group) was developed this Fall. After over a year of feeling God's call to minister to our youth, I discussed the idea with both Missy Streyle (Sunday School Administrator) and Pastors Connie and Sharon. We decided to start small with youth in grades 5-8, but if successful, plan to expand to 12th grade.

The focus of Rise Up, is to continue to support the youth's knowledge of Christ and their personal relationship with him. Rise Up is also including concepts of servanthood from Mission Builders. We will be discussing the importance of serving our church, our community, and those in need around us. The youth will be given opportunities to "serve" throughout the year.

Rise Up meets during Sunday School at the Leeds Lutheran Church in the study. All youth, grades 5-8 are welcome!
