From Rev. Nancy:

My minister’s videos this week:

1. Reflections on the grief of Monday’s mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, with gentle thoughts on how we push back against the tide of hatred and violence aimed at so many groups—neighbors all. Can we connect at the heart—cutting through distractions (including—sigh!—the mysterious buzz that runs through much of this video)?

2. (In the comments) Tomorrow at UUCG—do come for worship with us at 11:00 EDR, in person or online, and stay afterward for the Green Space Nature Activity, or the Good Trouble gathering, or for the sheer joy of companionship in Social Hour!

Rev. Nancy’s weekly video and her invitation to it:

A Q***r Muslim Memoir That Brings Me Hope and Direction!
With thanks to Lamya H.!

Beloveds, are you by any chance feeling skeptical or discouraged about whether we’ll ever build a world where all people and creatures are cared for and respected, where “conflict is dealt with in gentleness,” and “everything is rooted in love”?
Oh dear ones, I’ve found such renewed strength and motivation in a beautiful memoir I just finished! Here’s author Lamya H.’s vision for how our smaller versions of a just and compassionate world can scale up!
I hope you’ll take a look at this week’s video— and let me know what you feel!

Rev. Nancy tackles this month’s spiritual theme of “Awakening Curiosity,” and asks, How the heck does this inborn trait of curiosity *fall asleep*??

Maybe when truths are routinely distorted and information overload batters us? Rev. Nancy offers a suggestion about how to revitalize our curiosity and courage in order to reclaim our sense of agency, to grow, stretch, and find our way.

Please do join us in a daily practice to renew our curiosity: What are you curious about today?

From Rev. Nancy:

My minister’s messages this week!

1. Have you heard scientists talking about “hope fatigue”? This new-to-me idea this week has me excited about naming where many of us are—somewhere very much in between hope and despair. I love how it swings open a door to fresh possibilities! See what you think! Does this resonate with you?

2. And in the first comment: This Sunday’s (April 12’s) service at UUCG, “The Power of Our Embrace,” draws on many cool resources—including the moon mission—and invites us to some fresh perspectives. (“Freshness” seems to be a theme!) I hope you’ll come! Sunday at 11:00 am ET online and in person

This month we are Embracing Possibility ✨

Of all our themes this year, Embracing Possibility is at the heart of our faith. From the beginning, Unitarian Universalists have chosen to see potential where others saw limitation. Where some saw a fallen world, we saw the possibility of creating heaven on earth together. We have held fast to the belief that we should not give up on one another or this world 🌎💛

Spiritually, this has shaped us into a people who ask why not. Why not offer another chance? Why not work toward change, even when the outcome is uncertain? Why not risk failure, forgiveness, or hope? Why not trust in the possibility of a new dawn? 🌅

But possibility is not always easy. Many of us carry doubts, fears, or weariness. This month we make space for both the joy and the complexity of trusting what could be. Together, we explore what it means to stay open to transformation, growth, and unexpected beauty 🌱

We are grateful to be on this journey together.
