There has been a quiet competition over which ethnic group dominates Nigeria's fashion-design industry.

The Yorubas appear to have built a stronger industrial structure around fashion, particularly across Lagos and Ogun, where you can find large tailoring operations, production workshops and fashion businesses operating beyond the level of one-man shops.

The Igbos, on the other hand, seem to have a strong presence in individual entrepreneurship, one tailor, one shop, one customer base, gradually building a personal brand.

Then there is another model common among some Northern tailors, mobile and home-service tailoring, where the tailor takes the machine to the customer's doorstep.

shoe making is one of the lucrative businesses people venture into.

it is worth considerable because it only requires little capital for start up

learning this skill takes 6 months to 10 months before one can master it effectively.

In the Eastern part of Nigeria, Aba market in Abia state are known for manufacturing handmade foot wears in large scales and bigger volume.

coming down to the Northern part of Nigeria, they are mostly known to be operating on a small scale
rendering home services to people and along the road

No trade is too little to be ignored

This Wasn’t the Plan

The story of Gbassy in the bustling city of Kenema reminds us that sometimes, life doesn't leave you with many options.

The beauty of life is found in those moments when one is able to find peace in a fragile world

when you are able to make meaning out of the shredded realities of life.

This wasn't the plan.

But perhaps life is not always about having everything figured out. Sometimes, it is simply about refusing to remain stagnant while hoping for a greater tomorrow.

You may not be where you planned to be.

You may not even like where you are right now.

But if you are moving, learning, creating, working, or building something with what you have, then you are not standing still.

Sometimes, the beginning of a better tomorrow is simply refusing to remain stagnant today.

Daily payment for masons today is not less than 12k. If he goes to work 21 days in a month, he will earn 252,000. How many white-collar job pays this amount in a month?

The above calculation is even based on daily pay charge. If the charge is based on full contract, it pays more than daily payment.

We see masons as poor people and it's because many of them don't know how to save. As the work takes a lot of physical strength, many of them feel that drinking alcohol helps to sustain the strength. That's how many of them get addicted to drinking and find it difficult to save enough money.

The point of this post is that no skill should be underrated. These guys make it more than many civil servants. The most important thing is to have a skill that pays. Bricklaying is one of them.
