It is with great sadness that I share the passing of my beautiful and noble friend, Cheryl Slader, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Cheryl was much more than a student—she was a dear friend. We shared many wonderful years together as teacher and student, united by a deep bond of mutual love, respect, and kindness.
During my years of teaching in Las Vegas, Cheryl’s yoga studio became one of the main places where people gathered for meditation, loving-kindness, and spiritual practice. She organized countless meditation and yoga retreats with me and generously supported many of my charity projects. Her dedication, compassion, and selfless service touched the lives of so many people, far beyond what words can express.
I will miss her deeply. It is difficult to imagine returning to Las Vegas and not seeing her warm smile and kind heart. Yet I also find comfort in knowing that a person who lived with such love, generosity, and compassion has created the conditions for a beautiful rebirth. I continue to chant and dedicate loving-kindness and blessings for her peaceful journey onward.
Her passing reminds us of the truth the Buddha taught: all conditioned things are impermanent. One day it will be my turn, and one day it will be yours. None of us knows when that moment will come.
So let us not waste this precious life. Let us love more deeply, forgive more quickly, serve more selflessly, and live each day with mindfulness, compassion, and gratitude.
Dear Cheryl, thank you for your friendship, your unwavering support, and your beautiful heart. Your kindness will continue to live on in the countless lives you touched. You will always be remembered with love.
May your journey be peaceful. May you be free from suffering. May you attain the highest happiness. 🙏💛🙏
