Paul is writing to the church and he's making a clear distinction in two different patterns of life. One that is exactly like the culture around us and one that is Godly. Take some time on your own to read this chapter.
As Christians Paul is encouraging us to live by the spirit. Being obedient to God's way of living brings life and gives glory to Him. Also, we should march in step with the Holy Spirit's leading. The Spirit knows the heart of God and will show us the correct actions, thoughts, speech, etc, that will glorify God and not ourselves.
