President John Quincy Adams recognized the Christian influence upon the rise of America and the formation of the Declaration of Independence. Believing that Scripture was the primary influence for the claim of universal liberty, Mr. Adams became the foremost political opponent of slavery. In his July 4, 1837 oration at Newbury, Massachusetts, President Adams presented a clear chronological argument from Scripture of the development of freedom and its culmination in the Declaration of Independence.
