WINTER OLYMPIC SECURITY UPDATE, FEBRUARY 7, 2026

Situation: Demonstrations and Protests

The primary demonstration brings together several protest movements under one umbrella. The march is expected to move through the southeast part of Milan (Porta Romana/Corvetto). The Olympic Village (Port Romana Scalo) is the primary target of the protests.

Demonstrations this afternoon starting at 3pm are scheduled to originate at Piazza Medaglie in the Port Romana area. Protesters are expected to move southwards along Corso Lodi, a major commercial thoroughfare.

From there the march is projected to turn towards the Olympic Village area, utilizing side streets such as Brembo and Via Benco to navigate to the heart of the Corvetto District. Groups are expected to linger at the Pizza Geremia, Pizza Ferrara, and Viale Enrico Martini.

Analysis:

The contrast between last night’s peaceful atmosphere and the recent violence during protests in Turin is exactly why security is so high today.

While yesterday’s events were student-led and largely symbolic, today represents a different “tier” of activism.

Recommendations:

In the event of having proximity to these types of incidents, Concilium recommends optimizing your outcomes by considering the following principles:

Avoidance:

Missions teams should avoid the protest route and surrounding neighborhoods starting at 2pm until late evening.

Get to Safety:

If you see large groups of people wearing black hoodies/masks or see police in riot gear, leave the area immediately in a safe direction. Do not stop, take photos or watch.

Maintain Accountability:

Ensure all team members have a “check in” procedure via WhatsApp or similar app. Carry a full charging bank. Establish emergency meet up locations if you become separated.

Call for Help.

Once you have moved to safety prioritize contacting your supervisor/team leader, another team member, security focal point, or even local authorities for help if the situation dictates and permits.

2026 WINTER OLYMPICS: CONCILIUM'S WINTER OLYMPIC SECURITY TEAM ACTIVATED IN ITALY.

Concilium is excited to announce that our Winter Olympics Security Team is active in Italy supporting Great Commission organizations serving during the games.

Please be in prayer for the Conciulium team and the more than 400 missionaries, gosple workers and many local local churches Concilium is supporting during the winter games.

Concilium's security team was off to a quick start with thousands of protesters marching through Milan today in protest against soaring housing costs and urban unaffordability. Presently protesters are marching to the Olympic Village seeking visibility during the first full day of the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Concilium is providng daily secuirity briefings and in-person orientations for missionaries who are serving at the games. Also, in light of the current protests, the Concilium's security team is providing real-time support for local Christian leaders coorindaing evangelistic progams across the region.

Please continue to pray not only for Concilium's field team but also for the gospel witness of so many who will attend the Olympics to share the Good News of Jesus. Pray that their winess would bear fruit and that the lost would repent and be saved!

Is with heavy hearts that Concilium asks for our friends and followers to pray for the families of Agape Flights with the tragic loss of one of their aircraft and both missionary pilots aboard.

Agape Flights has been a friend to Concilium, and we join with them in mourning the loss of their pilots. Yet today we remember that, because of the completed work of Jesus on the cross, we do not mourn like those who have no hope.

But if not.

Serious considerations are warranted regarding the thought processes that drive some (though not all) engaged in security training for Great Commission–focused restricted access strategies.

A concerning “clandestine” mindset appears especially prevalent among certain security trainers who aim to equip gospel workers serving in restricted and limited access environments.

How can you tell? Pay attention to the language commonly used in these trainings.

Start with the word “cover.” This includes phrases like cover for status, cover for action, and even top cover.

Then listen for the emphasis on “tenability,” often used as a framework to justify questionable activities or postures.

Next, watch for the use of “circles and boxes,” particularly when paired with interrogation training.

Also be alert to a strong focus on “evasion training.” (Negative bonus points if trainers advise gospel workers to hide handcuff keys in their clothing or sew kevlar string into garments to cut through flex cuffs. Newsflash: those who are transparent and have nothing to hide do not train this way.)

And the list goes on.

We do not doubt that many of these trainers mean well. But the problem is that this kind of training can make gospel workers appear to be something they are not—especially under stress, when people often revert instinctively to what they’ve been taught.

So be careful, Great Commission workers. Security training in restricted and limited access contexts is important. But the right kind of security training will help you navigate challenges faithfully and wisely—far better than approaches that risk making you look more like a spy, a smuggler, or other criminal instead of a disciple maker.

2025 was a busy and transformative year for the ministry. Around the world, the Concilium team trained and served 2000+ missionaries, gospel workers, and persecuted Christians.

From personal safety training and corporate security-risk and crisis management training to responding to unlawful detentions and global evacuations, Concilium served the body of Christ with biblically based, Gospel-centered resources and solutions.

As we enter 2026, may Concilium continue to empower God's people to thrive where the Lord calls them and remain effective where He plants them--But if Not!

On literal opposite sides of the world, two Concilium humanitarian trainings are currently underway!

Please be in prayer for Concilium as we train two Christian humanitarian organizations in the USA and the Philippines doing fantastic work in hard places across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

In 2026, the threats to humanitarian workers are not getting any less severe, and many cases the threats to humanitarian workers (not to mention missionaries) are increasing.

The awesome thing about Concilium‘s biblically rooted training is that it equips humanitarian workers to reduce their vulnerability to threats in the field, which allows them to increase opportunities for serving those with the greatest needs (“the least of these”).

Please be in prayer this week for these two amazing humanitarian trainings. Pray also that the workers we train would use our training to be effective in the locations where God has called them to serve.

More than ever, those who serve as the hands and feet of Jesus need our prayers and support to thrive where God has called them and remain effective where He plants them—but if not!

Great observation here!

If international mission agencies are going to take responsibility to disciple and mobilize local nationals, those agencies need to build a security component into that discipleship process.

The stewardship of security in Great Commission engagement is not about pursuing safety, but about managing risk. Risk management is inseparable from “counting the cost”—the very posture of obedience Jesus calls His followers to embrace.
