The Robinsons - Volunteer missionaries to Saipan We have an exciting piece of news to share with you! In June we are heading to the country of Saipan! on furlough. In Christ

William & Sarah Robinson (Fortner)

Last week we accepted a volunteer missions assignment through the Church of the Nazarene in the Asia-Pacific region. Those of you who know us well, know that this is the realization of a calling to cross-cultural missions that both of us share. Although not a long term assignment, this opportunity in Saipan allows us exposure to a mission field of which neither of us have experience - a great chan

ce to get our “feet wet” in a foreign context. We are pursuing the call of long term missions, so we are grateful for this initial experience together and the opportunity to work alongside the Global Mission Center and Mission Corps, who have been most helpful so far. A little now about Saipan and the work we will be involved in. Saipan is one of the Northern Mariana Islands, in the Western Pacific (1500 miles North of Papua New Guinea and 1600 miles East of the Philippines, just north of Guam). Saipan has a population of less than 50,000, including native Chamorro and Carolinian islanders, as well as migrant Filipinos. We have the pleasure to join the ongoing work of Nazarene missionaries Dave & Helen Ann Bucher, who host and disciple a house church. For part, we will be working alongside them, then undertaking leadership over the summer months when the Buchers return to the U.S. We pray that they will have a refreshing time with their children and grandchildren. We believe that ministry is best done through community, and that you can be a part of this ministry that will touch lives in Saipan. Please consider supporting us as a prayer partner in this ministry. Please pray that God would prepare our hearts and provide for our needs. Pray not only for us, but for the people already there, the future conversations and meetings with our new neighbors. We are unwaveringly confident of God’s hand on this opportunity and are so excited about what could come of it. In addition, to serve in this ministry we need to raise $3000. The cost includes travel expenses, utilities, food, and insurance. While we fully believe that God will provide the funds needed for this journey, we also believe that He often choses to do that through His people. We ask that you would prayerfully consider giving financially to this ministry. We would enjoy the opportunity to talk with you about Saipan and answer any questions you might have. So, With all this in mind, would you partner with us both financially and in prayer as we travel in faith to Saipan? Should you choose to be a prayer partner and wish to receive updates, please send your email address to: [email protected]

Hello! Sorry that we have been here 1 week and we haven't provided any updates. We arrived on time (miraculous since all 3 flights where standby) on Saturday afternoon. We spent the first few days getting to know the area and getting to know the people in the house church that meets in the buchers home. We have found the people to be warm and friendly. The island is stunning! HOWEVER, the effects of last Augusts typhoon are clear to see everywhere. It caused catastrophic damage to parts of the island, and those with tin roofs or homes that weren't sturdy were torn apart- the typhoon had a major impact on the whole of the island, and everyone we meet tells us about it.

The temperature is crazy hot, but the humidity is even crazier. Sometimes we inwardly moan that we miss AC but then we are reminded of the fortunate position we are in compared to some here.

The bucher's left for vacation on Thursday so we had our first Sunday by ourselves leading the church. Sarah's sermon from Isaiah 43 started our series on the major prophets and was warmly received, while William lead adult Sunday school and lead the congregation in worship. On Saturday we had the teens round for lunch and We talked about Elijah on mount Carmel, played jigsaw memory verse and had a fiercely contended, competitive game of UNO, for kids who had never played, they were pretty good!!!

We just wanted to let you know we are safe and in good spirits, however we covet your prayers as we continue to minister to the people of Saipan.

Love,

The Robinsons
