The world measures success by power and prestige. God measures success by surrender and love. Let’s step away from the wisdom of the world. Let’s loosen our grip, open our hands, open our hearts. Let’s practice the quiet, courageous work of placing our entire lives and our church in the hands of God. And let’s give, serve, and love until it feels incredibly good. Because exactly where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also.

Life’s Short ~ Dance Often

In these days of so much horror,
I take to my bed to dream of a different outcome.

Sleep is a twisted prayer, a night sweat, a bucket of grief,
as the wrath of man becomes a blood red cloak, draping its sorrow over all.

But I can not and must not look away.
Violence does not just give up. Greed does not just give up.

But only Love with its broken body on bended knee,
Love rasping in the choking dust of retaliation,
Love oozing sweat and tears of so much loss,
Only Love will dare to dream a different dream and learn the sound and bone of history to whisper, “Choose me! Choose me!”

Happy Labor Day to all workers!

Happy Labor Day to all workers!

🙏🏾 Creator God,

Help us to be your people, working for a world where all workers are valued. A world where those who clean houses are also able to buy houses to live in. A world where those who grow food can also afford to eat their fill. And one where those who serve and care for others – in stores, schools, hotels, restaurants, nursing homes, and many other places –are, themselves, also served and cared for. A world where all workers everywhere share in the abundance that you have given us.

-Rev. Seth Wispelwey
Minister for The UCC Economic Justice Movement

THE BLESSING
by Kahu Dick Walenta

We are one world, let us walk in unity.
We are all equal in grace, let us practice kindness and care.
We are all love equally, let us embrace all falsely excluded.
We are the body of the living Christ, Let us radiate the light of God’s Being.
Amene.

Here's a beautiful rendition of the song, "We Are One, Lord" sweetly sung by our very own Jocelyn Pratt, Ruth Galindo & Shelly Andrews, reminding us that "though we come from different places, we share one voice of praise."(August 23, 2026)

For our August 23rd Sunday service, Lorna Bright, presented a sermon entitled, "The Oneness Of Prayer" and provided insights into the richer, fuller, deeper way to pray that Jesus presented in the Lord's Prayer.

Last Sunday, August 16th, marked Kahu Dick Walenta’s final Sunday with us at Central Union Windward. Kahu is now stepping down for his own well-being, and he and his wonderful wife, Annie, will be making their annual visit to Canada.

Due to Hurricane Lala, the power was out, so we gathered together in circle and lit candles around the sanctuary. The Chancel Singers led us in singing a tribute song to Dick & Annie entitled, "God, We Thank You For Walenta" with words by our music director, Lorna Bright, and sung to the tune of "Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing."
As we sing at the end of the song:
"So we pray for Dick and Annie
as we send them on their way
Give them strength and give them peace
- with all our love - this we pray. ❤️🙏❤️🙏

Aloha, Central Union Windward family and friends,

Sunday, August 16, marks Kahu Dick Walenta’s final Sunday with us at Central Union Windward.

Kahu Walenta has been a tremendous blessing to us over the years. He served Windward United Church of Christ as our full-time pastor from March 1984 to April 1994 and returned to assist us at Central Union Windward after February 2020 and COVID. Despite enduring health issues and treatments in the past couple of years and other than his annual Canadian retreats, Kahu Walenta has faithfully shared his mana’o and spiritual messages from our pulpit as our primary teaching pastor for the past 6 years. We are incredibly grateful for his love and service.

Kahu is now stepping down for his own well-being, and he and his wonderful wife, Annie, will be making their annual visit to Canada.

Please join us this coming Sunday, August 16, to express our gratitude for his years of service and to wish them the best on their trip.

Our gathering music starts at 9:45 am with the service following at 10 am, and be sure to stay afterwards for refreshments in the gazebo as we bid them a fond aloha.

Mahalo and see you Sunday!
