Pastoring comes with many disappointments, and many are unexpected because of what you invest in others. One of the things I’ve learned is to stop expecting my good heart out of all people—you’ll be hurt every time. People will reveal who they are when things aren’t going their way, and it’s sad. This may seem like a public vent, but I’m sure I’m speaking for many pastors across the world. We suffer mistreatment, disrespect, and low-key abuse.

But even in this, God is still shaping us. He’s teaching us how to love without losing ourselves, how to serve without becoming bitter, and how to guard our hearts without hardening them. We can’t control how people respond, but we can control how we heal, how we forgive, and how we continue to walk in integrity.

Lord, teach us how to process the hurt without projecting it onto others. Strengthen our hearts so we don’t grow weary in doing good. Surround us with people who understand the weight of this calling, and remind us that You see every sacrifice, every silent tear, and every act of obedience.

We trust You with the outcome, even when it hurts. And we’ll keep showing up, not because people always deserve it—but because You called us to it.
