If God desires to lead us, why doesn’t He speak up?

More often than we like to admit, the issue isn't God’s silence, it’s our unwillingness to move.

God does not force His guidance upon us nor does He does He overpower our will and shout over our distractions. He gently leads us patiently and through a relationship.

One reason His role feels smaller in our daily decisions is because we often ignore His promptings. When we sense direction, conviction, or restraint we’d prefer to move past it rather than to pause and listen.

Another reason is time. Hearing God requires space. It requires slowing down enough to listen, reflect, and stay present with Him rather than rushing from decision to decision.

God has not withdrawn His willingness to lead. He has simply honored our decsions when we move on contrary to Him.

When we make room to respond to His promptings, His guidance becomes clearer and clearer.

God is not distant. He is patient. And He is ready to lead those who are willing to listen and follow.

What if today you gave God the opportunity to speak? Take 15-20 minutes and ask Him to impress upon you what He thinks about you and how He wants to lead you one step at a time? If you sincerely seek Him, He promises that we will find Him.

What would it feel like to not have to do life alone?

Not in the sense of having God as a co‑pilot you consult when things get hard, but as the One who is actually directing your steps.

That's not wishful thinking. That’s what God is offering.

Scripture does not present God as someone who simply watches life unfold and occasionally weighs in. He desires to lead, guide, and walk with His people through ordinary, everyday life.

Too often, we settle for independence with occasional prayer rather than a life of guidance and direction. We ask God for help, but still want to remain in control of the route and sometimes even resist His leadings when they don’t align with what we already want.

Yet God’s invitation goes far beyond occasional help. He is inviting us into a life where He leads.

He is not asking to sit quietly beside us while we make the final call. He offers to direct our paths, shape our steps, and walk with us through each decision as we learn to trust Him.

Life was never meant to be navigated alone. God is not distant, passive, or uninterested in the mundane moments of our lives. He is always present and willing to lead for those who are willing to follow.

Maybe the invitation today is simpler than we think. To loosen your grip just enough to let God take the lead. To give Him the opportunity to direct your steps, not as a co‑pilot, but as the One who truly leads your life.

It can be exhausting when we are looking to God for direction and we find ourselves continuing to wait for an answer.

Especially when you are praying, seeking, and still don’t feel clear direction from God.

And if we are honest, the frustration often isn’t just about the decision itself. It is the fear of getting it wrong. The fear of stepping outside God’s will. The fear that if you choose incorrectly, you might miss what God had planned.

Somewhere along the way, we got the idea that God’s guidance always comes with instant clarity. It’s as if direction should arrive in a moment where everything suddenly makes sense and all doubt is removed.

But Scripture does not actually present guidance that way most of the time.

More often than not, God is shaping who we are long before He makes the path clear.

That is why we can get so frustrated when we treat decisions like spiritual landmines. As if one wrong step ruins everything. As if God’s will requires us to be on a narrow tightrope rather than a lifelong walk with God where He walks with us and guides us along the way.

Throughout the Scriptures, we find that God is focused on being with His people. Over and over again He says, “I want to be your God and you to be my people.” He invites us to trust Him and allow Him to give us wisdom and change our characters. He desires us to seek His guidance and acknowledge Him in our ways even when fear has not fully loosened its grip.

The frustration you feel is not a sign that God is absent. It is a sign that you are trying to carry responsibility He never asked you to carry alone.

God is not standing back, waiting to see if you choose the right option. He is right there with you regardless of whichever choice you make. He is walking alongside you teaching you how to pay attention to His promptings and developing humility and dependence upon Him as you go.

So often, clarity comes after we step forward in faith, not before it. So take the next step. You will find a peace that can only come from Him. When we feel unsure, it doesn’t mean we are failing, but simply that we are still learning to trust.

Most Christians read their Bible and never hear God's voice. If that's you, you can change that.
