šŸ“° I wrote an Op-Ed for The Christian Recorder about an issue that has been on my heart for quite some time entitled:

"From Boxes to Books: Making Room for Creative Callings in the Church."

It is a Spirit-led case for why the AME Church must make room for ordained creatives, digital ministers, writers, and artists who are bearing real fruit outside of traditional boxes.

I would appreciate your feedback below:

āš ļøLONG POST ALERT….ā€¼ļø

There is something we have to face honestly as parents and as a community.

OUR CHILDREN ARE STRUGGLING!

Not just academically, but in how they read, how they speak, how they carry themselves, and how they engage the world around them.

The literacy gaps are real.
The lack of discipline is noticeable.
And the influence of social media is shaping them faster than we are.

We cannot keep outsourcing the formation of our children and then be surprised by what they become.

Teachers cannot carry this alone. Schools cannot fix what is not reinforced at home.

We must show up… consistently, intentionally, and with structure.

Read with them.
Talk with them.
Correct them.
MONITOR what they are consuming.
PAY ATTENTION!!!

Our children deserve more than our good intentions. They deserve our presence, our guidance, and our leadership.

WE MUST DO BETTERā—ļø

AT THE TABLE šŸ“š at the Cleveland Public Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. branch was such a meaningful moment.

We had such good conversation, and shared beautiful energy!

I’ve been a little quieter online than usual because this season has been demanding, but I didn’t want today to pass without sharing. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to gather around story, faith, and community in such a special way...even if it was 3 degrees. šŸ˜‚

Thank you to Erica Marks, Davidia Michele, Marla J Media, and everyone else who made the moment possible. These photos capture a little bit of the joy.

Family, I’m leaning into community today.

Many of you know I’m currently teaching High School Theology at a Christian school. What I didn’t fully anticipate was just how hungry these students are for God—and how many of them do not own a personal study Bible.

I have 74 students who show up, ask questions, wrestle with faith, and engage Scripture… without a Bible they can call their own. No notes in the margins. No highlighting. No personal record of what God is speaking to them. And that matters.

I truly believe that 74 lives could be changed forever if each of these students were gifted a study Bible. Not just for class—but for life.

So I’m asking, humbly and hopefully:
Would you consider sponsoring at lease one Bible, or simply sharing this post?

Donations can be made on Cashapp $TheAwakenFamily or on TheAwakenFamily.org/support

🌱This is seed in good soil.

šŸ’šThank you for always showing up with me and for believing in the power of the Word to transform lives. šŸ¤

The link below shows what I'd like to order for them [$3.84/ea]

Affordable and trusted NIV Outreach Bible • Designed to help students discover the true story of God and his plan to set the world right again. I hadn’t planned on hosting a virtual prayer retreat in January.
A few reasons: I’m stepping into a new role teaching Theology, and to be honest, I’ve been personally and privately exhausted. This season has required more of me than I expected, and I’ve been trying to find my footing.

But over the past couple of weeks, several of you have reached out asking if I was planning something to help us center, breathe, and begin the year with God in view. Your messages reminded me that many of us are navigating the same kind of weariness.

So yes—on Saturday, January 10 from 10 AM–12 PM, I will host a simple, gentle 2-hour virtual Morning Retreat called ā€œThe Waiting Room: Strategies for Waiting on God.ā€

Nothing heavy. Nothing overwhelming. Just a quiet space to reset, pray, and gather strength for the journey ahead.

If this sounds like something you’d join, drop a comment or a heart so I can gauge interest.
