On this day in 1851 at the Woman's Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio, Sojourner Truth shared her story delivering her stirring “Ain’t I A Woman” speech. A popular but inaccurate version was published 12 years after she gave the speech by a white abolitionist who not only changed Truth’s words but also used a stereotypical 'southern black slave accent', rather than her own upper New York State low-Dutch accent. On this day in 1825, the American Unitarian Association was founded. The AUA was formed by congregational churches that rejected Calvinist teachings and served as the body representing Unitarian beliefs until joining with Universalists to form the Unitarian Universalist Association in 1961.
