On this day in 1851 at the Woman's Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio, Sojourner Truth shared her story delivering her stirring “Ain’t I A Woman” speech. A popular but inaccurate version was published 12 years after she gave the speech by a white abolitionist who not only changed Truth’s words but also used a stereotypical 'southern black slave accent', rather than her own upper New York State low-Dutch accent.
