We are lifting up Pacific Islander and Asian American voices like that of our guest preacher, Deacon Rody Nakamura of the Marshallese Church of Orange County, United Church of Christ. He demonstrates how to say "Hello" in Marshallese and what it means. I see the rainbow in you.

Perhaps they felt like they were standing at the edge of a mountain, told to run. Fear, excitement, uncertainty as their instincts screamed to stay put, to cling to the familiar. They were followers, students Disciples. Jesus' death left them unsure. Fifty days after Easter, they were stalled in Jerusalem and the wind finally began to blow.

We're celebrating Pacific Islander Asian Heritage month with guest preacher Deacon Rody Nakamura. The name Marshall Islands doesn't come from the people but from Captain John William Marshall, a British naval captain who explored the region in 1788. Perhaps we should start using their name and language.
