SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

Scripture:
“He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said.” — Matthew 28:6

Reflection:
Peter did not want to see his friend die. Peter spoke out of love. But Jesus knew that his journey would lead to the cross. Sometimes love means sacrifice. On the cross, Jesus shows us the depth of God’s love—a love that declares that we are worth dying for. And in the resurrection, God shows us that love is stronger than death. This is the promise we have through Jesus. This is grace.

Prayer:
God of resurrection, remind me that your love is stronger than my mistakes, stronger than suffering, and stronger than death. Help me live today in the hope of your grace. Amen.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

Scripture:
“God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

Reflection:
Peter got it right, and Peter got it wrong. Jesus loved him either way. That is grace. God’s love is not something we earn by getting everything right. We will make mistakes. We will misunderstand. We will sometimes have good intentions that go badly. None of that causes God to stop loving us. Grace means that our failures do not have the final word. God’s love is greater than our mistakes.

Prayer:
God, thank you for loving me even when I fail. Help me extend to others the grace you have so freely given me. Amen.

Scripture:
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Matthew 22:39

Reflection:
Loving our neighbor sounds simple until we actually have to do it. Sometimes we misunderstand what another person needs. Sometimes what we think is helpful isn't helpful at all. Sometimes, despite our best intentions, we make mistakes. Yet Jesus still calls us to love. We do not have to love perfectly. We are called to keep trying—to listen, to learn, to show compassion, and to remember that every person we encounter is someone God loves.

Prayer:
God, help me love my neighbor with humility and compassion. When I make mistakes, help me learn rather than give up. Amen.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2

Scripture:
“For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face.” — 1 Corinthians 13:12

Reflection:
We do not have divine knowledge of what God is doing in the world. None of us does. We see only a small part of the picture. That can be uncomfortable, especially when we believe we know exactly what should happen. But acknowledging our limited understanding can also be an act of faith. We do not have to know everything. We can trust God while continuing to do the work God has given us.

Prayer:
God, when I cannot see the whole picture, help me trust you. Give me wisdom to know what is mine to do today. Amen.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
Scripture:
“You are a hindrance to me, for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.” — Matthew 16:23

Reflection:
Just moments after Peter confesses Jesus as Messiah, he gets it terribly wrong. Peter loved Jesus and wanted to protect him. His intentions were good, but he could not see the bigger picture. We can be like Peter. We can sincerely believe we are doing the right thing and still be mistaken. Good intentions do not make us infallible. Sometimes we need the humility to admit that we may not see what God sees.

Prayer:
God, give me humility when I am certain I am right. Help me listen, learn, and remain open to your wisdom. Amen.

MONDAY, AUGUST 31
Scripture:
“You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” — Matthew 16:16

Reflection:
Peter got it right. He recognized who Jesus was and boldly proclaimed it. Sometimes our faith is strong and our confidence is well placed. There are moments when we clearly see God at work. We should celebrate those moments. But Peter’s story reminds us that getting one thing right does not mean we will always get everything right. Faith is not about being perfect. It is about continuing to follow Jesus.

Prayer:
God, help me recognize your presence today and give me courage to follow where you lead. Amen.
