When we say, I can’t do it, Jesus says, “I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you” (John 14:18).

When we say, I have lost hope, God says, “Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).

When we say, I am confused, Jesus says, “The Advocate, the holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name—he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you” (John 14:26).

When we say, I am weak, God says, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us” (Romans 8:26).

God fulfills His promise to us by pouring out His Spirit to be our Paraclete—Intercessor, Helper, Comforter—in every single moment.

Heaven isn’t what draws us to God; God is what draws us to heaven...“We don’t love God because he’s in heaven; we love heaven because that’s where God is.”

NIS DOMINUS FRUSTRA

This is a Latin phrase that means, “Without the Lord, frustration.” It is a motto for those who try to live without God.

The most important thing is always to be attentive to God. Especially when we are saying prayers of some length, it is almost impossible to give our attention to the meaning of all the words. Still, it is always possible to keep ourselves in the presence of God while reciting them.

"Some people don’t get us crazy Catholics. All of this prayer, and self-sacrifice, and giving alms and good grief, for forty days? I mean, honestly, what is the point? So long as we are kind, isn’t that enough? But ya know, I don’t think so. Even the kind are prone to wander. Even the kind fail to respond when they are called. Even the kind need to be reeled in from time to time.

Lent is not about what God wants to keep from us. It is not about what we lose, but actually, about all that we gain. It is an incredible opportunity for us to strip ourselves of everything that keeps us from running to Him, all of those temporary things we strive for, that never satisfy. All of those fun, in-the-moment things we do, only to find that they have left permanent scars that never fully heal.
God loves us, and He wants us near. And come Easter morning, He wants nothing more than for us to rise and turn to Him with a whole heart."

In prayer, are you achieving or are you receiving?
Because holiness, is not achieved; it is received.

As we begin Holy week let's think about the crowds shouting "Hosanna to the son of David!" Matthew 21:9
How different are the cries that are calling Christ the "King of Israel" and then in a few days time they will be saying "We have no king but Caesar!" What a contrast between the Green branches and the cross, between the flowers and the thorns. Before they were offering their own clothes for him to walk upon and soon after they are stripping him of his and casting lots upon them.
~Bernard of Clairvaux

There’s a healthy and an unhealthy way to love ourselves. Jesus said, “love your neighbor AS yourself.”

This implies that we must first learn to love ourselves authentically before we can really love others – or as St. Anthony says — “all human beings.”

Loving ourselves authentically looks like recognizing that first and foremost God resides at the core of our being. Because He gazes on us in love, we find healthy self-love immersed in His love.

Loving ourself means inviting healing for our wounds and being confident and thankful in the gifts we have received.

It looks like truly realizing we are enough, that we are good, that our lives have a purpose, have meaning and to trust that we will uncover that purpose and meaning through the journey of living. And, if we surrender ourselves to God within us, we will more readily uncover that purpose.

Today is "Palm Sunday," but on the liturgical calendar it is actually "Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion"

Matthew 26:14-27:66
This reading captures a stunning theological tension: the same crowds who joyfully shouted "Hosanna!" on Sunday will be crying "Crucify him!" by Friday.
When the congregation recites the words: "Crucify him!" — that is no accident...The Church is inviting every soul in the pew to reckon honestly with the fact that it is our sin that nailed Christ to the Cross.

If you desire an increase in humility, sit at His feet.
If you desire an increase in devotion, sit at His feet.
If you desire intimacy with God, sit at His feet.
