Horeb Haitian Seventh-Day Adventist Church is located in the heart of Maryland and it shares its district with its sister church, Bethanie Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Columbia. The history of Horeb reflects the loyalty, the greatness and the kindness of the Lord. The foundation of this church was laid on May 25th, 1989 in Laurel, MD, when a few members of a French speaking international congre
gation—New Jerusalem—chose to evangelize to the Haitian community in the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. This initiative led by brother Cliff Bastien, with the help of some devoted brothers, led to the birth of a group of Haitian Adventists worshipping together on July 8th, 1989 with 21 members. A few months later on February 3rd, 1990, Horeb was officially established as a church in the Allegheny East Conference, followed by the installment of our first pastor, Pastor Leslie Moïse. Pastor Moïse and his successors have all emphasized and executed Horeb’s mission to evangelize and serve its community (See Mission Declaration). By the grace of God, this resulted in continuous growth of the church through pastors Max Emmanuel Charles (1995-2001), a small transition from 2001-2002, Arbentz Pierre-Antoine (2002-2012) and our current pastor, Yvéniel Saint-Luc. While we wait for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus, Horeb wants to persevere “in the daily exercise of brotherly love, and maintain the faith until we can participate in the marriage of the Holy Lamb,” as stated by Pastor Yvéniel Saint-Luc during the recent celebration of our 25 year anniversary.
