We have a nice and long Sunday School recap because today was particularly special for teachers as kids moved teachers with their insight, with their kindness, and with the way they use what we're learning and put it into action.
Today during our Path Finders Sunday School class crammed three lessons into one session with Palm Sunday, Jesus washing the Disciples' feet, and the Last Supper. The Palm Sunday lesson involved making hand-traced palm branches and parading through the church while shouting, "Hosanna! Hosanna!" They talked about how happy the people were to see Jesus and how excited they would be if Jesus was physically coming to visit Humboldt. But they also talked about the angry men who did not like Jesus. 🌿 Then they started learning about when Jesus washed the Disciples' feet. They talked about how dirty their feet probably were, from walking on dirt roads and not bathing as often as we do today. They talked about how Jesus is the King of Kings, and how most kings would never wash someone's feet. But Jesus did it to show His love and to demonstrate how we should love others too. Miss Mallory told the kids that if they wanted to, she would wash their feet. Most raised their hands and were quick to kick off their shoes. They talked about how we should love everyone and how we should show kindness to others. As Miss Mallory was working her way around the room, washing little feet, one sweet girl came up to her and asked if she could wash their feet too. 🥺 So Kids Mallory showed her what to do, and she washed feet. Then other kids were excited and asked to wash feet too. 🥹😭😭😭 THIS IS EXACTLY WHY JESUS SAID, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3). There were so many smiles, and they were all so gentle and careful with their friends' feet. And they even helped the younger kids put their socks and shoes back on. 💦👣 Then they finally talked about the Last Supper, and Miss Spencer held up a loaf of bread and some grape juice. They talked about what each represented, and how Jesus said that He would be leaving soon and that we would all be very sad, but that He also said that we would soon become very happy! They talked about Jesus dying soon but that something amazing happens on Easter Sunday, and they will be very happy that day! They prayed and thanked God for teaching us how to live and for Jesus who showed us the way. The teachers had the kids sit at the table, as they passed out "the body of Christ" and "the blood of Christ." (And then passed out more and more and more because they were all really hungry today 🤣)🥖🍷 What a blessing it is to teach these sweet kids every Sunday (and what a blessing it is to learn from them as well)! AND two of our new students received their Bibles and Resurrection Eggs today too! 💜
Today was wonderful for our Trail Blazers class too. They sat on the floor in a circle and read a lot from the Bible (per the kids request) about Palm Sunday and the crucifixion. They talked about how it was kind of sad. And how that is one of the reasons Easter is so happy and bright because He comes back to us and never leaves. Then they made Palms and stood in the hallway saying “Hosana in the highest” as each child pretended to be Jesus and everyone waved their palms. Then they played some games together at the end. 😍 Miss Faith shared: "Today was a really wonderful day. The kids were so happy and energetic and engaging and curious! I had a smile on the whole time. Today was very spiritually rewarding. And the kids are so wonderful." ❤️
And our Truth Seekers class had a shorter class (due to the kids needing to leave early for bells practice before the service). They discussed Palm Sunday and also bits of the crucifixion too. ✝️
Please join us for Sunday School next week as we celebrate Easter and the JOY that comes that morning at Faith United Methodist Church - Humboldt County, Iowa at 8:30 at our Humboldt center. 💜✝️
