Devotional on John 10:7
“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.”** *(John 10:7, KJV)
The Door That Changes Everything
When Jesus declares, “I am the door of the sheep,” He is not offering a poetic metaphor—He is revealing the only entrance into true life, true safety, and true fellowship with God. In a world filled with countless “doors” promising fulfillment, Jesus stands alone as the one doorway that actually leads to salvation.
In ancient sheepfolds, the shepherd himself would lie across the opening at night. His body became the door. Nothing entered unless it passed through him. Nothing exited unless he allowed it. The shepherd’s presence was the sheep’s protection.
Jesus is telling us that He alone stands between us and the dangers that seek to destroy our souls. He alone grants access to the Father. He alone provides the security, identity, and belonging our hearts long for.
1. The Door of Salvation
There is no other entrance into God’s kingdom. Not good works. Not religion. Not moral effort. Only Christ.
He is the door that swings open to grace, forgiveness, and new birth.
2. The Door of Security
Sheep are vulnerable creatures. So are we.
But when Christ is your door, the enemy cannot simply walk in.
Your life is guarded by the Shepherd who never sleeps.
3. The Door of Provision
Through Him we “go in and out, and find pasture” (v. 9).
He leads us to what nourishes, restores, and strengthens.
Every spiritual blessing flows through the doorway of Christ.
4. The Door of Belonging
To enter through Christ is to enter a family.
A flock.
A place where you are known, loved, and led.
Reflection
Are you trying to enter life through another door—success, approval, comfort, self-reliance?
Every other entrance leads to emptiness.
Only Jesus leads to life.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the door of the sheep. Teach me to enter through You alone. Guard my heart, guide my steps, and lead me into the fullness of life that only You can give. Amen.
