Creativity Was Buzzing at The Salvation Army Northwest Corps!

Last week, The Salvation Army Northwest Corps came alive with imagination, color, and creativity during our exciting Bee Creative event!

Participants had the opportunity to express themselves through hands-on activities, connect with one another, and explore their artistic talents in a fun and welcoming environment.
Events like Bee Creative remind us of the importance of providing opportunities for individuals and families to discover new skills, build confidence, and strengthen community connections. It was wonderful to see so many creative minds come together and showcase their unique talents.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, staff, Corps Officers and everyone who participated in making this event such a success. Your enthusiasm and creativity made the day truly special!

Summer heat doesn’t affect everyone the same way, and extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at risk.

A broken AC, a home without shade, a night without relief can turn a heatwave into a crisis.

That’s why this season matters, and The Salvation Army Houston is stepping in to offer cool spaces, water, utility bill assistance, and support for neighbors who need help staying safe this summer. ☀️

Reach out locally if you need assistance or if you can lend a hand. ✨

This Friday, June 5, we celebrate National Donut Day a tradition established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the courageous Donut Lassies who served soldiers on the front lines during World War I.

In 1917, these remarkable women traveled to France, where they provided soldiers with comfort, encouragement, and a taste of home by serving freshly made donuts from makeshift huts near the battlefield. Their compassion and dedication became a symbol of hope during one of history's most challenging times.

Today, we proudly continue their legacy by serving veterans, first responders, and communities in need, honoring those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

Whether you're enjoying a donut with family and friends, making a donation, volunteering your time, or simply sharing the story of the Donut Lassies, you are helping keep their spirit of service alive.

Join us this National Donut Day as we celebrate a sweet tradition rooted in compassion, courage, and community.

Happy National Donut Day from The Salvation Army!

Celebrating the Sweet History of National Donut Day! Yesterday, The Salvation Army had the wonderful opportunity to be featured on Great Day Houston on KHOU 11, where John Romaka joined the incredible Deborah Duncan to share the inspiring story behind National Donut Day.

Many people enjoy a donut on this special day, but few know the remarkable history that inspired the tradition. In 1917, during World War I, The Salvation Army sent brave women volunteers, affectionately known as the "Donut Lassies," to France to establish field bases near the front lines. Working from makeshift huts, these dedicated women provided soldiers with essential supplies, comfort, encouragement, and of course, fresh donuts. Their acts of kindness brought a taste of home and a boost of morale to thousands of servicemen during a challenging time.

More than a century later, National Donut Day continues to honor the legacy of these extraordinary women and their service to others.

A heartfelt thank you to Deborah Duncan, the entire Great Day Houston team, and KHOU 11 for helping us share this important piece of history and highlighting the mission of The Salvation Army.

As we celebrate National Donut Day, we remember the compassion, courage, and service of the Donut Lassies whose legacy continues to inspire us to serve our communities today.
