As ACAM embarks on 21 years of ‘doing more together’ we are also celebrating a milestone that was not a part of the original plan – the anniversary of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporation on September 19, 2011. The original plan was a pilot conceived as a means for faith‐based organizations that provide basic needs services to increase their capacity to do more mission, the Zip Code Assistance Ministries Organizational Development Program (ZCAM ODP). Through the power of collaboration, Executive Leadership and individual agencies grew and improved. Energized by this momentum, they developed the Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries (ACAM), a legacy of ZCAM ODP, which has grown to 15 staff and a budget of $6M working to strengthen the connective tissue between high-performing service agencies to bolster regional resiliency.

ACAM is thrilled to announce a Texas Talent Connection (TTC) grant award from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) of $350,000 to support the Health Care Careers Initiative (HCCI) in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, and Waller counties. This innovative outreach and barrier removal program helps opportunity youth complete a credential in healthcare and secure employment as medical assistants, dental assistants, or certified nursing assistants.

“The Texas Talent Connection grant will help our region’s growing population of youth that aren’t working and aren’t in school to secure job placement and higher wages,” said ACAM CEO Sharon Zachary. “In addition, it will contribute to a skilled talent pool for in-demand health care careers.”
