John 14:27
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
When we speak of peace, the world does not understand us. Because we speak of the peace of Christ. It is not the same peace that the world knows, nor the same peace that the world seeks. The peace that Christ offers hinges on two promises that he gave his disciples when he mentions to them this peace. First, he assured them that the Father will send The Helper – The Holy Spirit who will teach them all things and will bring to their remembrance all that he has said. Then he comforted them with the truth that though he is going away, he will come again. He then proceeded to acknowledge the threat that the ruler of this world is coming. However, none of his disciples need to be troubled, they only need to believe in God and in Him.
Thus, until a man first believes in Jesus, receives from him the Holy Spirit, and lives with the expectation of his coming again, such a man will not have the peace of Christ. He will seek peace, but he will only find the world’s peace. It is a peace that, like all things in the world, is temporal. It is a peace that yields readily to the slightest of pressures. It is a shadow that lacks any substance. At best, an empty shell that as soon as it crumbles could hardly be restored without missing any of its pieces.
Our wish for you is that you will find the peace that Christ alone can offer. God bless!
