Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East

Unitarian Universalists for Justice in the Middle East We educate and mobilize the UU community into action for a just peace in Palestine/Israel. https://linktr.ee/uujme We do not speak for the UUA.

UUs for Justice in the Middle East (UUJME) is an independent organization of concerned UUs working within the Unitarian Universalist community to educate and mobilize individuals, congregations and denominational leaders to recognize and counter inequality and injustice in Palestine-Israel, and to support our allies in the global justice and anti-oppression movements. UUJME has no official affilia

tion with the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA), but is a Related Social Justice Organization. We are guided by UU principles, as well as international law, UN resolutions, respect for human rights and religious freedom, and UU actions and statements. UUJME is incorporated in Massachusetts as UUJMECorp. We support the proposed 8th UU Principle.

Our Unitarian Universalist history, from Transcendentalism onward, has given us a profound connection to and love for our natural world. Today, our connection to the planet and to one another remains deeply woven into our faith and religious practice. And still there are times when we lose track of the communities directly impacted by climate disasters and environmental disruption in our work toward sustainability in our congregations and communities.

Happy Earth Day, beloveds. Today and each day as we live guided by our UU values, let us imbue our relationships with one another, and especially with those directly impacted, with the same deep sense of awe and reverence that we experience with our natural surroundings.

Register for the Joint Christian Advocacy Summit 2026 May 5–7, Washington, D.C.

More than 75,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023. Civilians throughout the region continue to face displacement, hunger, and destruction, while a fragile ceasefire remains deeply uncertain. In the West Bank, settler attacks have intensified significantly, and hundreds of families remain displaced. The suffering is immense — and people of faith cannot remain silent.

Grounded in Isaiah 1:17 — "Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed" — the Joint Christian Advocacy Summit gathers Christians and allies from across more than 35 denominations in Washington, D.C., May 5–7 to learn, pray, and act.

Unitarian Universalists and people from other faith traditions are also welcome. Attendees will receive advocacy training and meet directly with members of Congress to call for policies rooted in justice, dignity, and lasting peace for all. Discounted registration less than $85 is available: [email protected].

Congratulations!

The Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism is one of the most prestigious awards given by the UUA. Recipients of this award have strengthened the institutions of our Association, clarified our message in extraordinary ways, and exemplified what Unitarian Universalism stands for.

Your UUA Board of Trustees is proud to announce the recipient of the 2026 Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism: Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs.

Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs (he/his) has served congregations in Indiana, Quebec, Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, and California over the last thirty years. Clyde and his partner the Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh also work in a community ministry in the Boston area involving coaching and spiritual direction. Clyde has served on the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association’s Board. He served three years as an at-large member of the UUA Board of Trustees. Before entering the ministry, Clyde worked as a community and labor organizer. He has worked for peace, justice, and equality since he was in the Unitarian Universalist youth movement, Liberal Religious Youth.

Clyde honors his Native American heritage (Texas Cherokee), which informs his spiritual understanding and practice, and his anti-racist and anti-oppressive commitment. He has spoken extensively on the Doctrine of Discovery and participated in leading the UUA in repudiation. Clyde is active with the United American Indians of New England around efforts to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day and build solidarity with indigenous movements to defend Mother Earth.

Join us in celebrating Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs! 🎉
The presentation of the Distinguished Service Award will be held during this year’s General Assembly in 2026. Past recipients of the UUA Distinguished Service Award can be found here:

Today marks 78 years since the massacre of Deir Yassin, an atrocity that came to define the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 to establish the state of Israel on stolen Palestinian land.

During the Deir Yassin massacre, Jewish militias that would soon become the Israeli military rounded up men, women, and children before executing them. The militias blew up homes with families inside and killed at least 110 villagers. By the end of the massacre, the militias had killed or forced out the town’s entire population.

Plans for the Deir Yassin massacre and its replication were exposed in Plan Dalet, the plan by Israel’s founders to use terror and force to steal as much Palestinian land as possible, before the official establishment of the state of Israel. Plan Dalet and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine was predicated on Zionism — the racist colonial movement that led to the establishment of Israel, an apartheid state built on land stolen from massacred and forcibly exiled Palestinians.

In the 78 years since, Israel has kept the horrors of the Nakba alive through relentless violence, ethnic cleansing, and the theft of Palestinian land. Zionist leaders have always been transparent in their goals of land theft extending beyond the borders of Palestine and into the entire region, under the framework of colonizing a “Greater Israel.” Now, we’re watching that plan become reality as the US funds the Israeli military’s expansion of its genocidal tactics across the region.

Palestinians and their neighbors have endured more than 78 years of Israel’s horrific violence. They deserve to be free. Until all people displaced by war and Zionism can return home, we will resist. And as we do so, we’ll continue to honor Palestinian history and let it guide us in our struggle for freedom.

JVP Action, our 501c4 organization, is now doing business as JVP; JVP Lab, our 501c3 organization, continues separately and remains focused on our nonpartisan educational and cultural work.

We are united with more than 200 human rights, humanitarian, and faith-based organizations in condemning President Trump's threat that "a whole civilization will die tonight."

UUSC believes that all human life is sacred. A threat to annihilate an entire civilization is not rhetoric, as it may constitute a threat of genocide under international law. Civilians must never be targeted.

We call on all parties to uphold international law, and we are committed to pursuing accountability for anyone who orders or enables atrocities: https://www.amnestyusa.org/press-releases/200-organizations-and-experts-call-for-an-end-to-trumps-threats-of-war-crimes-and-commit-to-pursuing-accountability/
