STATEMENT OF BELIEFS OF PAUL'S UNION CHURCH:
Article I – God
We believe that the God of the Bible is the only true and living God and that He is all-powerful, wise, and good. He has revealed Himself in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 44:6; Proverbs 15:9; II Peter 3:9
Article II – Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ, being the eternal Son of God, became man
by being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross and through His shed blood believers are reconciled to God. After His death, burial, and resurrection, He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of God making intercession for His saints. Luke 1:30, 31, 35; Colossians 1:13-18; Romans 8:34
Article III – Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third Person in the God-head, makes effective the redemption purchased by the blood of Christ by applying it to the believer. He convicts men of sin, enables them to hear the call of the Gospel and dwells in the heart of every believer as the source of power and comfort. I Corinthians 6:11; John 16:7-11
Article IV
We believe that God created man in His own image. By disobedience to the command of God, man fell from the original state of innocence and became subject to death and eternal punishment. All men by their relationship to Adam are sinners by nature; and by their own choice, sinners by practice. Their only hope of escape from a just doom is by God’s appointed way. Genesis 3:16-19; I John 1:8, 9; Romans 5:12-19
Article V – The Bible
We believe that all Scripture was given by inspiration of God, written by holy men of old as guided by the Holy Spirit, and is necessary to teach the faith, correct error, and reset the direction of man’s life. II Timothy 3:16; John 20:30, 31; Romans 3:23
Article VI – Sin
We believe that sin is failure to conform to the Law of God, separating man from God and destroying the best that is in him.
1 John 3:4; Romans 5:12; Romans 3:23
Article VII – Satan
We believe that Satan is a person, the open and declared enemy of God and man, the author of sin, and cause of the fall of man. He is presently opposing all that is good and godly on the earth today, but his destiny is eternal punishment in hell. I John 3:8; John 8:44; Job 1:6-12; john 2:1-7
Article VIII – Salvation
We believe that salvation is God’s gift of eternal life. It is a gift of God’s grace and is received by man through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died on Calvary’s Cross for the forgiveness of our sins. John 3:16; Acts 16:21; Romans 10:9, 10
Article IX –The Church
We believe that the True Church, which is the Body of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all believers in Christ who have been baptized by the Holy Spirit into one Body. We believe also in the organized and visible church, which is an assembly of believers observing the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, edifying themselves for godly living and service and proclaiming the Gospel until Christ comes. We further believe that every Christian should be a member of a local church. I Corinthians 12:13; Hebrews 10:25
Article X – Christ’s Return
We believe that Jesus Christ will come to the earth again to receive unto Himself all believers, judge the peoples of the world, and fill the earth with His glory. This event is the blessed Hope of the Church. Titus 2:13; Acts 1:10, 11; I Thessalonians 4:16, 17
Article XI – Death and Resurrection
We believe that at death the soul of the believer immediately passes into the presence of God, but that his body remains in the grave until the coming of the Lord. At the resurrection, believers shall enter into heaven, but non-believers shall suffer everlasting punishment in hell. Luke 16:22, 23; Daniel 12:2; II Corinthians 5:6-8; I Thessalonians 4:16, 17
