💗 For each book I note the title, author, dates, a short summary, a clean takeaway, and whether it would serve our homeschool.

🏠 I especially love thoughtful historical fiction and stories with redemption, honesty, and a well-built home in the background. Those books give me language for conversations with my children.

📚 A homeschool library is not only the curriculum. It is also what Mom is reading. When I write a book down, I remember what it gave me.

🏠 BUILDING A HOUSE OF WISDOM

🏰 Page two and three are my reading goals and a simple “castle tracker.”

🏁 I set a goal of 12 books for the rest of the year. Then I made a tracker I can color or check as I finish them. Nothing fancy. Just enough to help me finish what I start.

🍽 Homeschool moms read in the cracks: after math, before supper, while a child works independently. A goal keeps that reading from vanishing.

🕵‍♀️ Some books will be clean mysteries and classics. Some will be for me alone, logged briefly. The point is not a bookstagram. The point is wisdom.

✨️ If you copy this idea, choose a number that fits your season. Then give yourself a box to check. Finished work is encouraging.

🏠 BUILDING A HOUSE OF WISDOM

❤️ The first page is a dedication.

✨️ Mine says, in essence: this journal will be my royal archive for stories, truths, and treasures that build wisdom, faith, and joy in our home.

💗 I added the date and Proverbs 9:1.

📃 Homeschool moms collect a lot of paper. This page tells me why this notebook matters. It is not for lists I will lose. It is for the work God is doing while we teach our children at home.

😃 If you start a journal like this, write one short purpose sentence on page one. Future-you will be glad you did.

🗺 Before I wrote a single entry, I gave the journal a map.

🖋 A table of contents sounds formal, but it keeps a pretty notebook from turning into a jumble. Mine looks like this:

Monthly Answered Prayers
Treasures from My Husband
Homeschool & Family Wisdom
Personal Joy & Gratitude

🏠 That is the whole house: Word, prayer, marriage, school, and thanks.

❤️ If you try this, do not wait for perfect handwriting. Label the sections, leave room to grow, and start. A homeschool life already has enough moving parts. The journal should make the good things easier to see.

🏠 BUILDING A HOUSE OF WISDOM

🏰 I found a little magnetic-flap journal with a metallic castle on the cover, and I knew immediately what it was for.

Not another planner.
Not a catch-all notebook.

A place to gather wisdom.

🖋 As a homeschool mom, I live in lessons, laundry, Scripture, conversations, and ordinary days that disappear if I do not write them down. This journal is becoming my “royal archive”- a simple record of books, Bible reading, answered prayer, family learning, and gratitude.

❤️ Over the next several posts, I will show you how I set it up, section by section, in case you want to make one of your own. You do not need a castle cover. You only need a notebook and a desire to notice what God is building in your home.

✝️ Homeschool is more than curriculum. It is the slow work of building a house.

🦬 We took our first field trip with our homeschool group to Frontier Texas in Abilene. Comanche history, the buffalo hide trade, cowboys, forts- the kind of day you can’t get from a screen.

If you sat down this morning, clicked on the Hub, and nothing happened-you’re not the only one. They’re working on it.

School doesn’t have to stop while we wait. A few things you can do right now:

• Pull out the printed Teacher Edition or the Teacher Edition Companion and teach the next lesson yourself. Those one-page “at a glance” lessons were made for days like this.
• Work the pages already in the student worktext. A lot of the assignments don’t need the video.
• If you already downloaded lessons in the Hub Lite app, those videos should still play offline.
• Review last week’s math, spelling, or memory work.
• Do a hands-on activity or science experiment from the Teacher Edition.
• Read aloud, nature journal, or catch up on written work you’ve been meaning to grade.

Homeschool has always been more than a login. The Lord can use even a glitchy Monday.

❤️ This week I added our extra events to the homeschool calendar, and it made such a difference.

We had a back-to-school homeschool party and a field trip. When you add those days to the calendar, you can decide whether to push the assignments or keep them right where they are. Either way, the children can see what’s coming, whether they need to work ahead, and how the extra things on the schedule fit with their schoolwork.

It keeps everyone from being surprised, and it keeps the year from feeling like one long pile of lessons with no room to breathe.

❤️ We are doing a soft start to our school year this year, and I’m getting it all set up today.

A soft start just means we ease back in instead of flipping the full-schedule switch on day one. Shorter days. Fewer subjects at first. Time to settle the morning routine, the chores, the school space, and our hearts before we pile on every book.

Why we love it (and why it works for little ones and the whole house):
• It takes the overwhelm out of week one for mama and the children.
• Habits and rhythms have room to take root before the academics get heavy.
• Kids adjust sleep, attention, and expectations gradually instead of crashing.
• You get to see what actually works in your home and tweak it without the pressure of “we’re already behind.”
• It protects the joy of learning instead of turning the first week into a battle.
• “Here a little, and there a little” leaves breathing room for the rest of the year.
