My son needed a desk for his school, so I used a solid slab of oak to make this, and then finished it with a satin polyurethane to give it some protection from use and abuse. (But hopefully not too much abuse!).

a cherry log that was destined for the wood stove. Now these boards can be dried for about a year and will make a nice piece of furniture.

This was a fun little project. Is anymore familiar with the old military street Baptist church in Houlton Maine? Several years back I acquired an old oak pew that was unusable, so I was able to reclaim some of the wood and make several of these book ends in an art deco style.
