A General Conference Update for Use in Worship on Sunday, September 6th, 2026
Church,
Yesterday, the General Conference of the Global Methodist Church concluded in Johannesburg, South Africa. Over 1,100 Global Methodists gathered for worship and work on behalf of our movement.
Sixteen clergy and lay delegates from South Georgia represented us well at the General Conference.
Our denomination was strengthened by the adoption of a theological document called The Articles of Faith.
In addition, we learned that our next bishop will be Paul Lawler from Christ Methodist Church. He will begin serving us and several other annual conferences on November 1st.
The days of having to minimize damage done at a general conference are over. The Global Methodist Church is stronger, more biblical, and more faithful because of the work done at this conference.
We give thanks for the hard work of our delegates and invite you to pray for our current bishop, Leah Gregory; our conference superintendent, Jay Hanson; and the safe return of our delegates.
Optional Prayer
Would you pray with me?
Lord, we thank you for this part of the Protestant movement to which we belong.
Father, we thank you that you are a God of order, and we give thanks for the way you have ordered this movement.
Jesus, protect the leaders of our denomination, annual conference, and local church.
Spirit, guide Bishop Gregory in her remaining days of service as our bishop, bless Paul and his wife, Missy, as they take on this new assignment, and guide our conference leader, Jay Hanson.
God, please help our delegates return home swiftly and safely.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
