What a powerful picture of sorrow turned to joy.

On Simchat Torah 2023, Evyatar David was kidnapped and taken hostage into Gaza. For more than two years, he endured unimaginable cruelty, starvation, and the horror of being forced to dig his own grave.

On Simchat Torah 2026, the picture is dramatically different: Evyatar is home, surrounded by his people, lifted up in celebration with a Torah in his arms.

The enemy sought to turn a day of rejoicing in the Torah into a day of unspeakable grief. Three years later, we see a young man who endured that darkness once again celebrating Simchat Torah in freedom.

“Which was turned for them from sorrow into joy.” — Esther 9:22

May Adonai continue to bring healing and restoration to Evyatar, to every survivor, to every grieving family, and to the people of Israel.

Am Yisrael Chai. 🇮🇱

On the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah in 2023, Evyatar David was kidnapped for over two years, starved nearly to death and forced to dig his own grave by Gaza terrorists.

On Simchat Torah this year 2026, he was cherished and celebrated, lifted up with a Torah in his arms.
