It was boring. We felt judged. It seemed like people didn't care. And because of the lack of relationship, it all felt like a bad joke.
We prayed and asked God if this was the best thing He had to offer. Our hearts hurt. Our marriages were rocky. And we were bitter - not at the world, but at "church people" because of how we had been treated. We realized that Jesus is perfect, but for some reaso
n church was messy, even terrible. Right then and there we knew we had to act. We had to go. We had to start something that wasn't just different - we had to start something that was real. Though we were crushed and disillusioned, God's dream in our soul never ceased.
We met in living rooms, coffee shops, warehouses, and around too many different tables to count. Right there, in our brokenness, we saw God. We stumbled on to something special. We stumbled on to real church. Our hearts mended, our relationships grew deep, and for many of us it was the first time we had ever experienced true community. We continue that desperate search for Jesus and for real, true relationships with our friends, our family, and our neighbors. C4 is more than an organization or a building. It is more than a religious attempt to "be good" or to pacify our humanity. It is our life. It is our community. It is who we are. It is our heart.
