God’s Great Love!!
John 3:16-17 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Text: God’s great love
Subject: Our Independence from Sin
Introduction: The Fourth of July celebrates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. The Declaration announced the political separation of the 13 North American colonies from Great Britain. Here in America we go all out celebrating with food, firework with family and friend's gatherings. It’s good to remember special occasions as we do sometimes, but it’s just as important to remember the greatest independence of all, when we received our deliverance from the bo***ge of sin. all should know that we should be celebrating “Jesus” as the Son of the Living God. Who can into this world to take away the sins of the world? We know what happened in the Garden of Eden when Eve was deceived and along with Adam disobeyed God. This caused a Gulf between man and God which remained until the birth, death and resurrection of Christ which bridged the gap between man and God. If you ask why? How? It’s because of God’s Great Love!!!!
Let’s look at 4 points which reveals God’s Great Love!!!! for us
God's Great Love, 3:16-17
1. The fact: God so loved us (v.16).
2. The evidence: God gave (v.16).
3. The purpose: to save (v.16).
4. The proof: God sent His Son (the Incarnation) (v.17).

When we look at the word “love” the Ancient Greeks identified four
forms of love: kinship or familiarity (in Greek, storge), friendship
(philia), sexual and/or romantic desire (eros), and self-emptying or
divine love (agape)

1. The Fact: God so loved the world. He loved the whole world.
The idea that God loves the whole world is not a new idea. The Jews believed God loved the religious (the true Jew) and hated the non-religious (the Gentiles). The same thoughts are held by many in every generation, especially by religionists. The fact that God truly loves is shocking to many. Some wonder and others question how God could possibly love the... vile person, murderer, Immoral person, wife be**er, child abuser, pr******te, thief, alcoholic, street person, oppressor, enslaver, bitter and the vengeful.
They get it twisted, they think that God only love them and their
denomination and their idea about God. They forget that that such was some of them before God saved them.

God loves every man, not just the religious and the good. He does not love only the people who love Him. He loves everyone, even the unlovely and the unloving, the unbelieving and the obstinate, the selfish and the greedy, the spiteful and the vengeful.
"For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:12-13).
The basis of God's love is His nature. God is love (1 John 4:7-8 (KJV) 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love); therefore, He loves. He acts, demonstrates, and shows His love. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
Love acts: it expresses itself. Love does not sit still, doing nothing. It is not dormant, complacent, inactive. If love actually exists, it has to act and express itself; it has to do something good. Love is loving; that is, love is always demonstrating love to others. Therefore, God's love acts and reveals Him to be love.
So, the Fact is that God so loved us: This leads us to our next point which is the……………….
2. The evidence: God gave: This is the evidence of God's love—God gave His only begotten Son. A couple of points.
God demonstrated His love in the most perfect way possible: He gave His only begotten Son to the world. As God, He is perfect, which means His love is perfect. Therefore, God not only loves, but He so loves. He loves to perfection, loves to the ultimate degree. Whatever the ultimate degree and the perfect act and expression of love is, God shows it. Without question, the greatest act of love is the sacrifice of a man's own life; therefore, God sacrificed the life of His own Son to save man.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
Romans 8:3 (KJV) 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
The word gave has a twofold meaning. God gave His Son to the world, and He gave His Son to die. The idea of sacrifice, of great cost, is in both acts. It cost God dearly to give His Son up to the world and up to the cross.
a. He gave up His Son to be separated from Him, allowing Jesus to leave His presence, to leave the majesty and glory, worship and honor of heaven.
b. He gave up His Son to be separated from Him, allowing Jesus to come to earth... Into a world that was Fallen, depraved, wicked, rebellious, revolting and apostate; Into a world full of darkness, hostility, bitterness, wrath, apostate, war selfishness, greed, immorality, and sin.
c. He gave up His Son to be separated from Him, allowing Jesus to die for the sins of men
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5).
3. A most glorious evidence of God's love is that God took the initiative to save man. Man did not seek to save himself; God sought to save him. God gave His Son so that we might be forgiven and saved. God is the seeking, Savior.
"The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee" (Jeremiah 31:3).
Now we had (1) The Fact, which is that God so loved us, that it led to the (2) the Evidence that because of the love He gave, which brings us to the
3. The Purpose: (3:16) Salvation: This is the purpose of God's love: to save men. God's purpose in giving His Son was threefold.
1. To save men from perishing: Perishing means to be in a lost state in this world. It means to be...Aging, deteriorating, decaying, dying.
Without life (purpose, meaning, significance). Without peace (assurance, confidence, security in God's keeping). Without hope (of living forever).
2. To save men to eternal life: 1 John 1:2 (KJV) 2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us)
3. To save men through belief: Saving faith is believing in Jesus, who and what He is, that He is the Savior and Lord of life. It is a man giving and turning his life over to Jesus. It is a man casting himself upon Jesus as Savior and Lord.
And these three things together helped bridge the gap between God and man.
Now we had (1) The Fact, which is that God so loved us, that it led to the (2) the Evidence that because of the love He gave, which brought us to (3) The Purpose, salvation which lead us into the Proof.
4. The proof of God's love (3:17) God, Love of: This is the proof of God's love, the Incarnation. God actually sent His Son into the world
John 1:14 (KJV) 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1. Christ was not sent to condemn or to judge the world. We, the world, deserve to be judged and condemned.
We are guilty both of breaking God's law and of coming short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). However, Christ was not sent to condemn or judge us. Judgment and condemnation were not His purpose.
2. Christ was sent to save us. His purpose was to save us from perishing and to save us to eternal life.

God Reveals Himself To Us
Amos 3:7 (NIV2011) 7 Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.
Daniel 2:22 (NIV2011) 22 He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.
Are you struggling today with something? Are you in the dark about what God’s plan is for your life? Are you at a crossroad and don’t know which way to go? Have things not gone the way you desire for them to go? Today if you ask God to show you what His will is for your life, He will show you. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NLT2) 9 That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 10 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
When we read the words of Amos and Daniel, they contain a wonderful reminder about the God we serve. And that is this simple truth, that He reveals Himself to us. But because God is supreme, we the created, can never comprehend God, the Creator, on our own. Our limited, corrupted, and faulty minds cannot fathom who God is or what His plans are unless He chooses to reveal Himself to us. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV2011) 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The good news is that God does not want us to be in the dark. Amos tells us that He has chosen to reveal Himself to us, including His plans.
God wants to have a relationship with us. He wants us to know His ways. So, he guides us, telling us everything we need to know. God is light, shining clearness on our path while giving purpose and direction.
Throughout history God has communicated His important plans to His people before bringing them to pass. God told Abraham that his descendants would be oppressed in a foreign land (Egypt) for 400 years and it happened. When the great I AM told Moses from the burning bush, that He was going to bring His people out of Egypt after many plagues of judgment that he would execute upon Pharaoh, He did. He communicated with Joshua about what to expect in the Promised Land including the parting of the Jordan River and the fall of Jericho.
Most of all, throughout the Old Testament God reveals that He was going to send a Messiah to save His people from their sins. And Jesus came and fulfilled that prophecy.
And God still tells us what He is going to do in the last days in the book of Revelation and in other prophesies.
How does God speak to us today? Hebrews 1:1-2 (NIV2011) 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
Now God speaks to us primarily through His Son, who is revealed to us in the word. John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus is God’s Word made flesh. He Himself is God’s message to us. That is why the phrase “WWJD” (What Would Jesus Do) is so powerful. Jesus shows us a model of how to act in many different situations.
God also speaks to us through the Bible, through counsel, through His Spirit, and when we pray.
Be Blessed in the Lord!

Nevertheless, at thy word!!
Luke 5:5-6 (KJV) 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
When Jesus finished speaking to the crowd, He said something to Peter. Peter responded to Jesus’ words by telling Him of their useless toil all night.
"Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing" (v. 5b, c).
These were not the words of a lazy man who was looking for a way to get out of work. They were not an excuse to escape from exercise. Peter and his partners had not spent a night of leisure but were tired by a night of labor. Time after time they had let down their nets and each time, they had brought them up empty. Though they gave everything to their work, they got nothing in return, and they were exhausted by their efforts. Has it ever seemed like, that your labor was in vain, you work hard at telling your family and friends about Jesus saving Grace, and it doesn’t seem like they understand or just will not except Christ as their savior?
A. The Order He Received. "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a draught" (v. 4c, d). The order he received didn’t seem logical. The order Peter received was strange and it seemed to have everything against it. Many times, our Lord asked His disciples to do things which they were unable to understand, things completely beyond their comprehension. They seemed to defy any explanation by human reasoning. Many times, His Word has the same effect on us. We need to keep in mind that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV).
B. The Objection He Raised. "Master, we have toiled all the night" (v. 5b). Peter wanted to do what the Lord told him to do but reason told him that it was impossible. Faith and doubt began to struggle for the rule in Peter’s mind. For a moment doubt had the upper hand but faith conquered.
C. The Obedience He Rendered. "Nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net" (v. 5e). "Nevertheless" speaks of the victory of faith over doubt. Peter said, "Everything is against it but I will do it anyway.” No doubt he was sleepy and tired but was going to do it." Peter teaches us a vital lesson here. There must be unquestioning and whole-hearted obedience to the command of Christ. The things He asks may not suit our notions. It may contradict our concepts and interrupt our plans for rest, however, we must immediately do what He asks, even though we may not understand the reason for doing it. We are to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV). Peter bowed to the authority of God’s Word but he was cautious in his obedience. Notice how the command of Christ was changed by Peter from the plural to the singular. Jesus told him to let down the nets. Peter said, "I will let down the net." Peter obeyed but he was conservative in his commitment. As Peter acted on the Word of the Lord, he was surprised at
III. The Unusual Take In The Nets. "And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes" (v. 6a, b).
Notice the word "when." Everything that followed was dependent on this word. It speaks of obedience to the Word of the Lord. The unusual take in the nets came when they obeyed the Lord. The results always follow the response. When Peter and his partners let down the nets, they "enclosed a great multitude of fishes." When they followed God’s Word, He filled their boats.
The Lord was going to do something wonderful for them, but He was not going to do it until they obeyed. When they did what He told them to do, then He did great and marvelous things for them. When they followed His Word to them, then they would find His work for them. God’s then would come after their when. When they obeyed, then they "enclosed a great multitude of fishes." If you desire for God to work in your life, when you obey His word, then He will work for you. It’s time to say “nevertheless at thy word”
