IDOLATRY LEADS TO DECEPTION
The Mixture in the Prophetic

Something I have recently begun doing is reading through a One-Year Bible. Over the years, I have read many different reading plans, with my favorite being the chronological plan because it aids tremendously in helping the Bible make sense. I picked up this current One-Year Bible to have a guide each day to either start or end my day (I read it at either time). Each day’s reading includes a passage from the Old Testament, a passage from the New Testament, a portion of a Psalm, and at least one Proverb. It never fails; every day, I pick up this Bible to read, and something jumps off the page! It always amazes me how God speaks to the exact things we are walking out when we submit ourselves to being in His Word consistently.

Because I started this Bible in October, the reading started deep in both the Old and New Testaments. The Old in Ezekiel and the New in the Epistles. I was reading in Ezekiel 14 the other day, and it was very sobering. I would like you to read Ezekiel 14:1-11 before I share what was stirring in my spirit.

Then some of the leaders of Israel visited me, and while they were sitting with me, this message came to me from the Lord: “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests? Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin, and then they go to a prophet asking for a message. So I, the Lord, will give them the kind of answer their great idolatry deserves. I will do this to capture the minds and hearts of all my people who have turned from me to worship their detestable idols.’ “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins. I, the Lord, will answer all those, both Israelites and foreigners, who reject me and set up idols in their hearts and so fall into sin, and who then come to a prophet asking for my advice. I will turn against such people and make a terrible example of them, eliminating them from among my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord. “‘And if a prophet is deceived into giving a message, it is because I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet. I will lift my fist against such prophets and cut them off from the community of Israel. False prophets and those who seek their guidance will all be punished for their sins. In this way, the people of Israel will learn not to stray from me, polluting themselves with sin. They will be my people, and I will be their God. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!’” (NLT)

We are living in a time when many of us look to the prophets to guide us and reveal what God is saying, what He is doing, what we should be doing, and what is to come in the future. Listening to the voices of those God has called is not wrong. God has called prophets to be His mouthpieces in the ekklesia (church). We need the prophetic voices. They are vital to us in the era in which we are currently living. The problem is that many who call themselves prophets fall into the category of the Ezekiel 14 prophets. Because of the idolatry in the church and our hearts, God Himself has put lies in the prophets’ mouths. There are those out there who speak from false and soulish revelation that is not from the Holy Spirit, but a reflection of idolatry. That is a scary thought. Because we can be listening to these prophecies and basing our decisions around what is being said, we can be putting our hope in the wrong things and outcomes that are not even the will of God. We ourselves could speak from soulish revelation if we have idolatry in our hearts. It is a sobering thought that should truly put the fear of God in us if we are serious about walking with Him.

What should we do?

The answer is to know how to hear God for yourself and let Him renew your mindsets.

Period.

If we know how to hear the voice of God for ourselves, what we hear from prophets —whether in our church services, online, or in our smaller gatherings — should align with what we are already hearing from the Lord. It may not be word-for-word or exact details, but if we know how to discern direction from God for ourselves, then our spirit will resonate when someone speaks the truth. This is how I gauge who to listen to, follow, and who not. It is how I determine what to read and apply to my life, and what to discard as not being for me.

And how do we learn to hear God’s voice? We must know His character. To know His character, we must read His Word. If we do not read our Bibles, we can easily mistake our own voice or someone else’s for God’s, because it is what we want to hear, not what is true. Reading our Bibles in a relationship with the Holy Spirit also changes our souls and mindsets, so we speak more and more truth.

This is why I teach the Bible the way I do. We have filters, and we read through filters. It is essential to understand the Bible through the Hebrew eyes through which it was written. Not so we become Jewish and not Western Christians, but so we can understand things correctly. We are Western-thinking believers. This is the culture, day, and hour in which we were born. God chose us for this time (Acts 17:26). Nevertheless, we must acknowledge that our culture and beliefs can sometimes influence our understanding and perception of truth.

In 2026, I will be launching a brand-new Ancient Paths Discipleship online platform to help you grow in all these areas. I am very excited about what is ahead! Keep staying tuned for more information.

Today, get out your Bible and seek the Lord for yourselves. Be aware that some are not speaking from the Holy Spirit, but rather are tainted voices due to the idolatry in our hearts. We need to be aware that we can also do this if we are not consistently in the Word and allowing God to change us. We need to enable the idols to fall in our own hearts so that we can hear God clearly and be pure voices through which He can speak.

Blessings,
Brandee

The action for Cheshvan is smell. We are to let our sense of smell come alive. It is connected to the fragrance of myrrh. Myrrh is mentioned in the Bible in association with anointing oil (Exodus 30:23) and embalming (John 19:39). It was known as a celebrated perfume given as a present because of its value and rarity (Matthew 2:11). In Song of Solomon 3:6, the Bridegroom is described as being perfumed with myrrh and frankincense on his wedding day. The fact that myrrh was used in the anointing oil, for embalming, and as a perfume on one’s wedding day points to the sacred nature of this valuable oil.

Back in August, the Holy Spirit was speaking to me about carrying the fragrance of Christ. As we grow and mature in this new 5786 cycle, we want the fragrance of God to permeate our soulish nature and transform us into the fragrance of Christ (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).

But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere, For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing: To the latter it is an aroma [wafted] from death to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom]; to the former it is an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things? [Who is able for such a ministry? We?]
2 Corinthians 2:14-16, AMPC

The Holy Spirit said the aroma that is on our lives is going to be heightened in this hour because He is awakening those who have been asleep. If we have been living a consecrated and holy life, expect people to start coming to us for prayer and with questions about Jesus. The other side of carrying the aroma of Christ is that it will repel others, and we must be on guard against offense. Because there will be opportunities for offense.

Since August, have you noticed this happening in your life?

In this month of Cheshvan, let’s allow the oil of myrrh to anoint our flesh for death so that we can carry the fragrance of Christ wherever we go. Our Bridegroom will return one day for His Bride who is ready for His return. While we are waiting, we can let His scent linger on us.

11/06/2025

Today, we want to learn more about the Hebrew month of Cheshvan. Every Hebrew month is associated with a specific Hebrew letter. The letter for this month is the nun. The nun is the 14th letter of the alphabet (Aleph-Bet) and has a numerical value of 50. Because of its numerical value, the nun is associated with jubilee and restoration.

In Aramaic, the letter nun means fish. In Hebrew, nun means to sprout, spread, propagate, offspring, shine, flourish, blossom, and generate. The nun can also mean son or heir, which originates from its association with Joshua being called the Son of Nun (Exodus 33:11).

The nun is one of five Hebrew letters that have a different form when found at the end of a word. This end form is called the sofit form. The end form of the nun is where the meanings to continue, to continue an action, or an ongoing process is derived.

In addition to the Holy Scriptures, the Jewish people have other texts they consider holy. One of these is the Talmud. The Talmud is a collection of writings that encompasses the full scope of Jewish law and tradition, compiled and edited between the third and sixth centuries. Written in a mixture of Hebrew and Aramaic, it records the teachings and discussions of the great academies of the Holy Land and Babylonia. According to the Talmud, the two forms of the nun represent the two forms of man before God. The one who bends before God humbly will stand straight and upright when facing Him on the Day of Judgment.

The nun can also be used as an adjective modifier in the Hebrew language. When it is added to the end of a word, it changes a word from an occasional quality to a habitual one. For example, one can lie or one can be a liar. By adding a nun to the end of the word, it characterizes a person or thing as having that attribute, which is now part of their nature. Think about this in light of the nun’s meanings. What we habitually do, we become a son of. What we habitually do, we will produce and propagate in the world around us. Romans 6:21 tells us, Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death (NASB95). We do not want to live our lives ashamed of our actions, decisions, and behaviors. All the more reason to be like the bent nun in humble submission before God, so the seeds we are spreading are from righteousness.

This month, as we examine the letter nun, consider what God wants to restore in your life so that you can produce righteousness in the world around you and not live ashamed. It’s time to step more fully into our identity as Sons and Heirs of the Kingdom!

What is 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 all about, and why would you want a copy?

𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 guides you alongside Nehemiah as he returns to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall and gates surrounding the city. The city’s defense system had been burned and destroyed by the Babylonian invasion, and the people were taken captive. Nehemiah was granted permission to go and repair what had been destroyed.

Nehemiah’s process can be paralleled with the process we go through as believers in Jesus to reclaim our identity back from the lies of Satan. Beliefs that were formed from culture, childhood, rejection, shame, fear, pain, and trauma can all be seen as we stop and dive deep into the meanings of each gate and make repairs.

SOFTENING THE SOIL OF OUR HEARTS: The Importance of Cheshvan’s Early Rains💧🌧️❤️

One of the characteristics of Cheshvan is that it is the month of early rain. You may have read Scriptures that talk about the early and latter rains. What are these Scriptures referring to?

In the Bible, there are three words used for rain. They are yoreh or moreh, melqosh, and geshem. We will look at melqosh and geshem first.

Melqosh (H4456) is often translated as “latter rain.” It is the spring rain that occurs from March to April to swell the ground for the harvest to come to maturity.

Geshem (H1653) is a word used to describe rain, specifically a heavy rain shower. It is the Hebrew word for rain, used in Genesis 7:12, where the rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights (NASB95). It is also known as the winter rains and occurs from mid-December through March.

The type of rain that occurs in Cheshvan is yoreh (H3138) or moreh (H4175). This rain is the autumn rain that happens in October and November. This rain has a very specific purpose that determines whether the coming harvest season will be fruitful. Autumn is the time of plowing and sowing. This rain prepares the earth to receive seeds and softens the ground after the dry summer season. Without the early rain, seeds will not be able to germinate, which will threaten the entire harvest.

In Biblical times, people saw rain as a gift from God and a sign of His favor. When rain was withheld, it was a sign of punishment or judgment for sin and not keeping God’s commands. Abundant, seasonal rain was promised to the people as a reward for faithfully keeping the commandments (Lev 26:4, Deut 11:13, 28:12, Jer 5:24, Ezek 34:26).

Some key Scriptures on early rain are:

Joel 2:23, So rejoice, O sons of Zion, And be glad in the Lord your God; For He has given you the early rain for your vindication. And He has poured down for you the rain, the early and latter rain as before (NASB95).

Deuteronomy 11:14, He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil (NASB95).

James 5:7, Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains (NASB95).

Why is all this important to know?

When we seek to understand the Bible, it is essential to remember that the natural world precedes the spiritual (1 Corinthians 15:46). What occurs in the natural world serves as a sign and precursor to events unfolding in the spiritual realm. There are lessons in the cycles of rain that teach us something about our spiritual lives and maturity in Christ. What else is this month of Cheshvan about? It is the month the flood began. Floods reveal roots, uncovering what has been hidden and bringing it to the surface. As the early rain begins to fall upon us spiritually, we can be thankful for the softening of the hard places in our hearts, so that new seed can be planted. As the rain continues to fall, that seed will germinate and produce a harvest.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 13 that our hearts can be one of four types of soil:

🌱Hard-packed soil – This type of soil is where our hearts are so hardened to truth that it cannot pe*****te our mindsets. We are in a state of rebellion and unbelief where the eyes of our hearts have been blinded to any truth. We are captivated by our mindsets and beliefs that were taught to us from the world system in any form. It could be from our parents and caregivers as children, culture, the world’s current values, or the beliefs we formed from trauma and pain.

🌱Rocky soil – The rocky soul is where our hearts have been slightly softened to truth, but not enough to produce a plant with any root system. We could view this soil as that of someone who is saved but has never taken any further steps to grow or mature in their faith. Their soil is going to be shallow because they still live almost exclusively by the mindsets of the hardened heart, even though they have initially had a softening to God’s Kingdom truths.

🌱Thorny soil – The thorny soil is where our hearts have begun to mature, and we have allowed God to work in us, changing our mindsets and beliefs. However, we are weighed down by the cares of the world, and our focus remains on earthly things instead of heavenly ones. Thorny soil produces a believer who is, as James tells us, one who is unstable because of double-mindedness (James 1:8). Allowing God to reveal true heart beliefs that we are living from and replacing those with His truths will help to heal a thorny heart. Jesus tells us that the deceitfulness of riches often will choke out the truth in a thorny heart. Greed results from a lack of trust in God’s provision. To heal a thorny, greedy heart, we need a revelation of the Father’s love as Provider.

🌱Good soil – The soil that will produce a harvest is a heart that has allowed God to water their heart with His Word, but they not only hear the Word, but they understand it and then obey it. Mere hearing, or even hearing and understanding, will not produce a good harvest if obedience is not part of the equation.

If we think of our hearts as a garden, we can have different areas that are each of these soils. We have some mindsets and beliefs where we have allowed the rain of truth to pe*****te and soften our soil. We can receive God’s Word, instruction, and correction in those places so that we can live from the mind of Christ. We have other places in our hearts where the rain of truth has begun to soften the soil, but there are still mindsets, ungodly beliefs, unbelief, unhealed emotions, or pride that prevent us from receiving the fullness of the seed Jesus wants to plant. Then there are places where the truth has taken root and produced a deep system that alters what grows out of the ground. Every action we take comes from a belief, which has roots that originated from seeds. This is why the rain in Cheshvan is so essential. The early rain softens the hard places in our hearts if we are willing to allow the softening process to take place.

There is a key meaning to the Hebrew word moreh (H4175) that we want to examine when discussing the early rain. This specific Hebrew word has an alternate meaning besides early rain. It also means a teacher, specifically a teacher for righteousness. This word is only used three times in the Old Testament: twice in Joel 2:23 and once in Psalm 84:6. Let’s look at Psalm 84:5–7 before we close this teaching.

How blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
In whose heart are the highways to Zion!
Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring;
The early rain also covers it with blessings.
They go from strength to strength,
Every one of them appears before God in Zion (NASB95).

How blessed is the person whose strength is in God! How blessed is the person who has God’s highways in his heart, which means that he has exalted God in his heart and is ascending higher towards Him. These verses tell us that this person is walking through the valley of Baca on their way to blessings and strength. Baca (H1056) means weeping. To reach higher, they are passing through the Valley of Weeping. Scholars believe this could have been a literal place full of balsam trees that exuded resinous gum, resembling tears, making a connection to the concept of weeping. However, it is also a symbolic expression of grief or difficulty in life.

Let’s connect this back to our four soils? How do we often go from one soil to the next and mature in our walk with Christ? It is often through suffering and pain. The Lord allows situations and circumstances to reveal what has been hidden under the surface, just like a flood. We are not aware of ungodly beliefs or mindsets that are opposite to God’s truths until suffering or pain reveals them.

Parts of our hearts may be thriving and producing thirty, sixty, or a hundred-fold fruit. But what about the part of us that is still hard-packed, rocky, or thorny? In this month of Cheshvan, let us allow the early rain to soften the soil, so that in this 5786 cycle, we may be transformed and changed, ascending higher to the mountain of Zion.

Blessings,
Brandee

The testimonies are already coming in from what is happening in this month of Cheshvan! 🌈🌧️🌳 We are only a few days into the month, and I am getting reports of shifts in marriages, inner-healing breakthroughs, and hardened hearts softening. God is moving! Later this week, we will look at one aspect of this month that partially explains these testimonies—it is the month of the early rains (Joel 2:23). 💧But today, I want to share with you what a testimony actually is from a Hebraic perspective. We understand a testimony as a report of what God is doing. Yes, this definition is true, but is there more?

We find the Hebrew word for testimony, or witness, in Isaiah 43:10,

“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “And My servant whom I have chosen,
In order that you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me” (NASB).

Witness is Strong’s ʻêd (H5707). It means a witness or testimony. The root of this word (remember, we want to take Hebrew words down to the verb root to get the deepest meaning) is Strong’s ʻûwd (H5749). It means to return, repeat, do again, to restore, to bear witness, say again and again, to testify, to duplicate or repeat.

Already from the definition, we see that when we are giving a testimony, we are declaring, “God, do it again!” We are asking Him to repeat what He has done again and again! We share testimonies with each other so we can have hope in our own trials that what God did for one, He will do for another. The Bible tells us that He is not a respecter of persons. He promises glory, honor, and peace to everyone who does good (Romans 2:10–11).

When we break the word ʻûwd (H5749) down deeper into the Hebrew letters, what deeper meaning do we see in the word witness? To find out, watch the teaching video below ⬇️

Today is the second day of Rosh Hashanah 5786! As we head into this new Hebrew year what is the Lord speaking? One verse He spoke to me last week was Isaiah 54:2. It is the year to enlarge our tents and strengthen our pegs. We are at a threshold and if we are going to go forward, we must be willing to let go of plan B and fully step into what is written in our destiny scrolls in heaven. 📜🖋️Today’s teaching breaks down Isaiah 54:2 to help us understand at a deeper level what the Lord is saying to us at this threshold moment. 🍎🍯⛺️🚪For the full teaching, check out brandeeloftis.substack.com.
