We've hit a snag...

A few years ago, we had a choice. Remove a dead tree from our property or chop off the dangerous top and leave it there. Is it pretty? No. So why did we leave it?

Because snags (dead standing trees) are critical parts of the forest ecosystem. Snags provide habitat, food sources, and nutrient recycling back to the forest long after the tree is dead.

And today, we hit a snag. Or rather, a pileated woodpecker decided to hit our snag. Over and over. We're excited to welcome him to the neighborhood.
