Dear John Wesley,

What has happened to your Church? You held a high view of Scripture and "recognized its supreme authority and regarded it as the center of your preaching and teaching" (A Man of One Book).

Yesterday, The legislative body of the United Methodist Church voted to repeal a 40-year ban on the ordination of gay clergy, one of several rule changes around sexuality adopted at their General Conference. The 692-51 vote upends a church rule first implemented in 1984 that barred LGBTQ+ members from being ordained. In recent years, some church officials opted not to enforce the rules. A process of so-called disaffiliation began in 2020, where traditional Methodist congregations could opt to leave the conference while retaining their church property. Roughly, a quarter of the conference—7,600 communities—did so during a three-year window. More votes are expected ahead of the conference's conclusion tomorrow. (1440 Daily Digest)

The Protestant Bible is also known as the Canon. The word comes from the Greek "kanon" meaning "measuring stick." The Evangelical Friends Church International believes the Bible is the only measuring standard for faith and practice.
The test used centuries ago for determining the canonicity of the Protestant Bible was:
Author: Was the text written by a prophet or other Spirit-led person?
Audience: Was the text written for all generations; is it relevant to all peoples for all times?
Teaching: Was the text in accord with previous revelation? Inspired scriptures do not time out, or change with the ebb and flow of culture; the Bible never contradicts itself.

Heavenly Father,
Please raise leaders in the Methodist Church that will return churches and organizations to their Biblical roots. Please continue to bless the Evangelical Friends Church. Call up men and women to lead our organization who are Spirit-filled and will hold to the authority of the Bible; our true measuring stick for Faith and Practice. Please bless us with men and women in our pulpits worldwide and may they preach salvation and restoration of people, societies, and creation through Christ alone. May the Fire of the Word in our pulpits, and an unwavering passion for holiness among our people, glorify Your Holy Name; and transform our world according to Your original design and purpose.

In Jesus' name,
Amen
