You can’t claim to support street safety and then fold when the pressure comes.

This is what weak leadership looks like.

You spent years paying lip service to street safety advocates only to come out looking lika a CLOWN🤡

🎉🪑🚌 CT Urbanists was featured on Connecticut Public Radio.

The story highlighted Connecticut’s recent efforts to improve bus stop infrastructure and our group’s role in supporting transit riders through a quick-build, community-led bench initiative.

What started in 2022 as a small intervention has grown into a network of benches across Hartford and beyond. Many of those benches are still out there today actively used and maintained

This work has always been about more than benches. It’s about dignity, accessibility, restorative mobility justice, and showing how small, low-cost interventions can meaningfully improve everyday public space while advocating for long-term infrastructure investments.

Big thanks to Connecticut Public and Isabelle Marceles for the thoughtful coverage.

CT Urbanists is hosting a Jane’s Walk in Frog Hollow focused on our benches.

We’ll be doing a bench check along Park Street and Main Street stopping at a few locations to see how they’re holding up, how they’re being used and talk about what’s working (and what’s not).

Come walk with us.

🏘️💥 CT Housing Crisis: We Can’t Let Misinformation Win 💥🏘️

In June 2025, Governor Lamont vetoed the most important housing bill Connecticut has seen in years — HB 5002.

Why? Not because of the facts.
But because a Fairfield County NIMBY group sent out a two-click email petition full of misinformation that flooded the Governor’s inbox.
📩 Thousands of copy-paste emails. Many hadn’t even read the bill.

Even Lamont himself called their talking points “gross misrepresentations.” But he still backed down.

Meanwhile, CT residents across the state continue to:
🔻 Struggle to find affordable homes
📦 Get priced out of the towns they grew up in
🚫 Face zoning rules that block walkable, people-centered development

This is NOT how policy should work.

🧠 A small handful of towns shouldn’t control the future of housing in our entire state.

✍️ That’s why we launched our own petition.

We’re calling for a Special Session and a real housing bill that reflects:
🏘️ Reality
📊 Data

🚗💥 Hartford eliminated parking mandates back in 2016 and the results are in: more homes, more businesses, more walkable neighborhoods.

So why is dragging its feet on going statewide? The policy is working. Stop letting arbitrary parking rules stand in the way‼️

04/19/2025 - Bench Build + Bus Stop Care Day Recap - Last Saturday (04/19) CT Urbanists teamed up with the Transit Riders Union of CT (TRUCT) for a day of action in Hartford💪🛠️

We split into two crews:
• One walked Park and Main Streets in Frog Hollow to check on six of our benches and pick up trash around each stop.

• The other crew repaired and repainted a bench at the Washington Street Plaza, bringing it back to life for this virbrant space.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined and the for the continued support from TRUCT
