Soverign in suffering đź‘‘

Isaiah 37:31-35
“And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.
For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. “Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege mound against it. By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, declares the LORD. For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.”ght ng

Join our GroupMe text thread to stay updated with our Bethel Baptist Student Ministry. We gather this evening at 6:30p.m. to look at the book of Isaiah. Who was he? When did he live? What does it mean for us? How does Jesus fit into this?

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.”

Love God & love others

Join us tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. for our Sunday School series on understanding biblical love in a word of biased feelings.

1 Corinthians 13:3-8
“If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.”

We talk about love like it is simply a fleeting feeling, yet when we read scripture it is considered the greatest commandment. How do we properly understand a word that could refer to the love of a parent for their child, but also speak of us enjoying our favorite food? Join us tonight for church at 6:30p.m. as we see what the Bible says about this powerful word we call love.

“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”
-Isaiah 53:5

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.”
-Galatians 3:13-14

This morning, we opened with "Two Roads" of the Christian life:

➡️ The Path of Performance and People Pleasing: This road is paved with appearances and rigid adherence, leading to the "Room of Good Intentions." Here, everyone wears a mask, terrified of making a mistake. It's a dead end, leading to spiritual burnout as we desperately try to maintain an impossible facade. Primary fuel for the path: Self, shame, & guilt from the world.

➡️ The Path of Trust and Rest: This path is built on faith in God's promises, guiding us to the "Room of Grace." In this room, we can be boldly broken and honestly ourselves, discovering that God’s grace runs infinitely deeper than our worst day. Primary fuel for the path: Repentance, rest, & reliance on God’s promise.

Using that illustration, we started our study in Joel 1, seeing how God sometimes uses the crisis of sinful choices to awaken us from empty religion, calling us back into real relationship with Him.

If you find yourself at a fork in the road with your spiritual life, there is good news. Jesus is our bridge from the "Room of Good Intentions" to the "Room of Grace." He frees us from living for personal preferences and people-pleasing, inviting us instead into a life of sacrificial love, just like His, to the glory of His name. His finished work on the cross saves us from the futility of performance-based living and compels us into authentic freedom through faith.
God’s perfect peace > Man’s peer pressure.

Finding True Fulfillment in Following Jesus

This week, we explored the profound truth that faith in Jesus alone offers true fulfillment, a fulfillment that goes far beyond fleeting feelings. We discovered that while following Him might bring challenges, it also brings incredible blessings. Ultimately, faith that doesn't follow into the furnace is futile, because it's based on fear of circumstances over faith in Christ.
Here's what we saw in Matthew 14:
* Persecution: The world will push back when you stand for truth, but don't be surprised or give up. Instead, follow in faith.
* Provision: God can multiply our seemingly little into much, meeting our needs in unimaginable ways. If He can create us, He can certainly sustain us.
* Protection: Even in your deepest fears, Jesus is with you, holding you up when it feels impossible.
* Power: Jesus has ultimate power over sin and brokenness. He offers a new life and a fresh start, regardless of your circumstances.
His promises aren't just for a good life now; they're for an eternal life of true fulfillment that never ends. This isn't just religion; it's a relationship with the God who created, knows, and loves you. He offers a peace that the world can't give, an enduring hope, and a purpose that is truly real.

Food for thought: How can you take a next step to strengthen your faith and deal with fear when following after Jesus?
