The Cardinal Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa invites us to a day of prayer, fasting and penance on October 7. October 7 is the Memorial Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.

His Eminence offers us this prayer for peace.

Lord our God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and Father of all mankind, who by the Cross of your Son and by the gift of His own life paid a high price to destroy the wall of enmity and hostility that divides peoples and makes us enemies : send into our hearts the gift of the Holy Spirit so that it may cleanse us of any feelings of violence, hatred and revenge, enlighten us to understand the inreducible dignity of anyone, and encourage us to work for a peaceful and reconciled world in truth and justice in love and freedom.
Almighty and Eternal God, the hopes of humanity and the rights of every people are in your hands: assist by your wisdom those who govern us, so that with your help they become sensitive to the suffering of the poor and those who suffer the consequences of violence and oppression the war; that they promote in our region and all over the land the common good and sustainable peace. Virgin Mary, Mother of Hope, obtain the gift of peace for the Holy Land that gave birth to you and for the whole world. Amen.

El Camino Pilgrimage
The Way of Saint James Pilgrimage

This coming September I will be undertaking an adventurous walking Pilgrimage on the Portuguese Route of The Way of Saint James, also known as El Camino. It will be a pilgrimage spanning 12 days and covering 160 miles. I will start my pilgrimage in Porto, Portugal and finish in Santiago, Spain. The idea of a pilgrimage has an incredibly strong foundation in the history of the Church. The spiritual importance of a pilgrimage is manifested often in physical journeys and trials along the path. One goes on a pilgrimage to ask Almighty God’s grace for help needed to live more generously their own Christian vocation. A pilgrimage is not, and never should be, just “a journey to a place of religious interest.” Alone or with others, it is a physical component of the journey of one’s heart toward Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I ask you to join me spiritually on my walking pilgrimage, as I take my family, friends and you, my dear parishioners, with me in my heart.
I ask you to prayerfully consider “Sponsoring” me along my “Spiritual Walk-a-Thon”, every dollar raised will be raised on behalf of our “Sister Parish”, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Jordan.
