Merciful Lord, thank You for deaconesses and mercy workers who step into situations of hurt, illness and need. Guard their hearts, give them wisdom in setting boundaries and provide them with people who will listen, support and care for them. Amen.

“THERE MUST BE SOMEONE ELSE!”

Maybe you’ve thought or even said those words in your head or to a sister who asked to nominate you for a position. It’s true, serving on the CDC Executive Committee does require time, effort and sacrifice. Ask anyone who has served, and they’ll tell you that there are times that you may feel completely overwhelmed with things to do, and finding a time for everyone to meet to get work done can be a real challenge.

BUT… they will also tell you that serving is a joy and blessing as you bond with each other and get to know more deaconess sisters in the conference. They will tell you that serving opened their eyes to understand even more deeply the diverse gifts of the women in CDC and the beauty of working together to serve women who constantly give of themselves.

There are unknowns awaiting those who serve, just like any new venture but we serve in Christ’s name and with His good hand of blessing upon us. Your labors are not in vain.

So if you’ve been asked to run for office and turned it down, or if you’ve been thinking about running but haven’t spoken up, please prayerfully consider allowing your name to stand.

If you have names, are willing to stand for election or if you have questions, please email Deaconess Pam Nielsen at [email protected] and someone from the nominating committee will get back to you!

WHAT DOES SHE or HE EVEN DO?

The CDC sets a priority regarding the spiritual care and professional growth of its members. To ensure these priorities are carried out we have two positions, with unique responsibilities that coordinate their efforts.

The Spiritual and Professional Growth Chair is a deaconess, and the Spiritual Counselor is a Pastor.

Have a look at their appointed tasks and prayerfully consider who might be a blessing in these roles. Send your nominations to Deaconess Pam Nielsen at: [email protected]

Spiritual and Professional Growth Chair

1. Chairs the Spiritual and Professional Growth Committee
2. Communicates with the Spiritual Counselor regarding special spiritual needs of members.
3. Assists CDC President as requested.

WHAT DOES SHE EVEN DO? Post #2

Lots of organizations have a secretary and a treasurer and likely you know what those posts kind of require. But here is what the CDC secretary and treasurer are tasked with doing:

Secretary

1. Prepares, stores, and distributes a written report of the proceedings of each meeting of CDC to CDC Members within one (1) month of the close of each meeting.
2. Prepares, stores, and distributes a written report of the proceedings of each meeting of the Executive Committee to the committee members within one (1) month of the close of each meeting.
3. Maintains a current membership roster and mailing list with information available to CDC Members and Affiliates.
4. Notifies members of meetings at least sixty (60) days in advance for regular meetings and thirty (30) days for special meetings.
5. Disseminates other information as necessary, including distribution of the newsletter, updated Constitution and By-Laws, election results, etc.
6. Conducts correspondence on behalf of CDC.

Treasurer

1. Establishes and maintains appropriate account(s) at financial institution(s) approved by the Executive Committee and transfers monies between said accounts as deemed advisable for earning interest.
2. Monitors CDC funds and provides bi-annual financial reports to CDC Members, as well as periodic reports to the President and/or Executive Committee as requested and mutually agreed.
3. Makes payments for all budget line items, except those set aside as restricted funds.
4. Records and monitors itemized accounts of all receipts and disbursements.
5. Refers any requests for payment seeming excessive in relation to past disbursals to the President for approval before expenses are incurred.
6. Submits financial records to an outside financial reviewer selected by the Executive Committee after the close of each fiscal year.
7. Files all required documents with the Internal Revenue Service and State of Illinois in conjunction with the non-profit organization status of CDC.
8. Stores a copy of these required documents in her files and forwards copies to the President and Historian for their files.
9. Term of office for Treasurer coincides with the fiscal year of the CDC budget, with the understanding that Treasurer terms overlap so that conference bills are paid and accounts are transferred.
