This piece is built entirely from walnut, then veneered with maple. Each individual piece was hand shaped and lightly rounded, allowing the walnut core to reveal itself at the edges and naturally outline every segment. No paint. No stain. Just wood doing what it does best.

From raw boards to St. Joseph and the child Jesus.

This portrait came together one cut at a time. Walnut, maple, cherry, poplar, white oak, and osage orange all working together to bring the image to life.

St. Michael: Prince of Heaven, Angel of Deliverence, Guardian of the Church, Defender of Faith, Patron of Soldiers and Police Officers- pray for us!

Using all natural woods, with these absolutely stunning pieces I wanted to capture St. Michael’s strength and stoicism as he engages in battle with evil. Notice how his wings shimmer in the light! I used curly maple veneer on top of walnut so that the light reflects beautifully off his wings but at the same time each feather looks as if it’s outlined.

I have to thank my little helper for oiling these up with me.

P.s- While finishing the St. Michael on the left side, I chipped a veneer on the wing. Unable to take it out and replace it, I did my best to fix it as cleanly as possible without damaging the surrounding pieces. For this reason this one will come with a $100 discount.

After 80+ hours of work, my first large-scale intarsia art piece is finally complete—and it’s available for purchase!

I began by designing and 3D printing over 150 individual pieces, each one forming part of this geometric image of St. Joseph tenderly holding the Christ Child. Those prints became my templates for cutting real hardwood—carefully selecting and aligning grain patterns to bring depth, movement, and emotion to the scene.

Every piece was shaped, sanded to 400 grit (yes, all 150+!), and finished with a hand-buffed hardwax oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

This project is a labor of love, and a reflection of St. Joseph’s quiet strength and devotion. Let me know if you’d like to bring it into your home or sacred space. $1250
