When a woman shares an unexpected pregnancy, our instinct is to fix it — to solve, to advise, to hand her a plan. But before she needs a solution, she needs to be heard.

Take the time. Listen to her story. Understand where she's at. Ask good questions, and wait to give your response.

That's a compassionate response. And it's the beginning of everything else.

At LIFE International, we equip believers around the world to declare the truth about the value of every human life — and to defend it with the kind of compassion that actually reaches people. Truth without compassion doesn't land. Compassion without truth doesn't lead anywhere. We need both.

"Where is human life being devalued right now in your culture?"

That question is where a LIFE International training begins. Not with a curriculum. Not with a lecture. With a conversation.

Zac, our International Director, shares what that looked like in the Solomon Islands — where the dowry system had taught generations to see women through the lens of property rather than personhood. For many in the room, hearing that men and women carry equal value before God was the first time.

We don't arrive with the answers. We open the Scriptures together and let the Lord do what only He can do.

"Human life is devalued in every conceivable way because of sin. And because of that, you see it in every culture."

When Jen Friesen asked what the greatest threats to life look like around the world, our Communications Director, Alissa, didn't answer with a ranking of countries or a list of issues.

It's the same root everywhere. It just takes different forms.

In the United States, we think first about abortion — and we should. But the vast majority of abortions worldwide are not happening here, and the reasons behind them look different from ours. That same devaluation shows up in how a culture treats orphans, or children with disabilities, or women.

Which is why we keep coming back to the Imago Dei. Human beings made in the image of God is the only foundation that gives every person intrinsic value — the kind you don't get from any other worldview.

Four attempts. Four failed abortions.

Roshan and Rina were overwhelmed — two sons already, a third child on the way, and mounting pressure because she was a girl. In desperation they went in for a surgical abortion. Their fourth attempt.

The doctor refused. He would not take their baby’s life. He told them he’d rather adopt her himself.

Today she’s six years old, and she fills their home with “laughter, love, and light.”

One person chose to speak truth. A family was changed forever. Now Roshan and Rina are declaring that same truth to others.
